Guys

On another thread a member has an 06 sport for sale 4 weeks old with 2k miles. When you drive your new 4 runner off the lot, approx how much do you generally lose in value from day1 after it has been titled. NADA does not yet post any values for 06 so I was wondering if others here had any insite into this?

One has to look at how the used car market is set up. First there is Retail for the used car, then private seller then wholesale. If your selling to the dealer you are getting wholesale.

2005 Toyota 4Runner
Limited 4WD 4dr SUV (4.0L 6cyl 5A)
Dealer Trade-In Private Party Dealer
Retail
$26,213 $27,601 $29,913
---------------------------------------------------------------------------

This is from Edmunds for a 2005 Limited. As you can see there is a $3,700 difference in price. Let's face it we as individuals cannot compete with retail, an individual cannot back up the sell like a retailer.

So when you walk off the lot I would supect the price drops to the wholesell price, thinking $3,500 off the price you just paid would be a good guess. Of course you could sell it yourself and lose a little less. That of course does not take in to account the taxes. Bottom line, hang on the the car for awhile.

I remember one person buying a new Volvo because they cannot pay for the 4Runner. At least he was convinced it would save him money. Well, he came on later to say that was a big mistake.

Depreciation - off the lot

My 2001 SR5 is the only vehicle I have ever bought brand new. It eased my pain of 'Off Lot' depreciation knowing that NOTHING on the vehicle was bitched up or neglected.....now it's up to me !
