Resetting maintenance required.

So I took my 4runner in for its service at 15k miles. Recently o was getting maintenance required soon and now it says maintenance required. I read the manual on how to reset it and I don't think I'm doing it correctly because the trip isn't changing to all zeros. can someone tell me what they've done which has worked? Thanks!

Post what your manual states in your first posting.....

Are you following the manual to the letter?

Works for me every time!

So with Trip A showing on the bottom, however many miles it's been counting, you turn off the car, hold down the disp button on the steering wheel and then turn the ignition to on, correct? Maybe I'm just missing something or reading it wrong.

Side question....when you took it in for service, why didn't they reset the "Maint Light"? Slackers!


Wait....the display button is the one for the trip meter, not the one on the steering wheel, it states nothing about steering wheel!!!!!!!!
Don't start the engine either.
You will see a progress rate and more than likely not 000000's. (at least mine doesn't show the 0's)

Press the trip until it shows "Trip A" then turn key off. Now hold in the trip button and then turn key 2 clicks until it flashes all 0's.

I know really. The one on the steering wheel says DISP for display!!!! God damnit. So it's just what you press to reset trip a or trip b?

Correct, just get it to say trip a, then turn off key, then hold in the same trip button/stick and turn the key forward to the on (but not starting) position while continuing to hold in the trip

I just asked Grace what you should do (serious)...

She said: "Put a new light in and then new screws in and then it's fixed...maybe"

I guess it's worth a try, lol.
 
Thanks all! This worked for me. On the last check at the dealer they didn't reset the 'Maintenance Required' - it was driving me nuts and I didn't want to go back to the dealer to get this cleared. Good trick to remember! :thumb:

Umm..does this mean your “1st world crisis” is over? If so unprovoked road rage in your locale will likely plunge, albeit short term.
