Resistors do not fix rapid blink.

Some may already know this, some may not care, but here is the info all the same.

I order the 50W 6Ohm PILOT resistors that are intended to fix the rapid flash I have from using LED lights in my Front bumper. According to E-Trailer and Adding these resistors in line on the power side of your LED light will return the blink to normal.

So I wired them up (took my time and did it all clean and right) and plugged them is........Still super blink, so I double check a couple things.
1) the resistors are not polarity specific.
2) Toyota operates on mostly grounds for many circuits, so I added a resistor to the ground side also just to be sure.

Nope, still don't fixture it.

So out of confusion, I added 1 then 2 then 3 more resistors to one light and it still blinks fast.


In short, there is no way to correct this hyper blink still...

You may already know this but the resistors need to be in parallel.
 
^ This. I have resistors from the local O'Rielly's and they fixed my hyperblink. One on each line in parallel and normal flash now.
 
Yep...same here. fixed LED hyper-blink...

Check here basically did the same as this tutorial. Note that on the 4runner you have three wires in the front: turn signal and drl along with ground. You need to combine those two (turn & drl) wires to your positive and the single ground wire to negative. Add one end of the resistor to each side (+pos & -neg). no more hyper-blinking.

I don't remember if they make it for the 5th gen 4Runners, but many other car forums seem to have success with it. It's used more for the tap the turn signal for 3 blinks.
 
Just to clarify, you installed one end on the power side of the bulb and the other side of the resistor is grounded, correct? What is being described here is positive on one side and continuing to positive on the other. You mentioned you did this to the ground side of the circuit too? I have to assume you didn't cut the positive lead and installed the resistor in between your cut.

I installed one end of the resistor to the positive side of the light, and the other end to a know ground. Then I tried installing two resistors, one end hooked to pos, the other to common ground, and then the other resistor one end hooked to neg and the other to common ground.

I then tried adding resistors in series with no change.

I did not try, hooking one end to the pos and one to the neg of the light, I can try that tomorrow.

If I recall correctly, you will accomplish your goal and be rid of the hyper flash. I don't have my rig to check for you but pretty sure that will do it!

One side of the resistor goes to the positive, the other the negative side.
 
Well, not that i had any doubts, but you guys were right, once i jumped the resistor between the pos and neg my lights work correctly.

So this morning I built all new harnesses (allowing the replacement of resistors if needed) with plenty of insulation and mounted the resistors to the sheet-metal behind the bumper cover with a couple small self tappers.

Thanks for the input, and helping me resolve the issue. I still don't understand why using a common ground on the resistor did not work, but it really does not matter now.

Hello, I was reading your post to the wiring issue of hyperflashing and just wanted to double check what you were saying. I have the 3 wire setup on my 2014 t4r and i've spliced the load resistor into the White/black line wire (ground), and the Yellow wire (Signal Power). It stops my hyperflashing in the daytime when all that's running are my DRL's (half power high beams) but at night when all my lights are on, including the signal lights as marker lights, when i use my turn signal, the hyperflashing comes back. Do I have to take the green wire (constant power) and splice it together with the yellow and the load resistor all in one splice?

Sorry to resurrect a dead thread...

Doing the 07 install with all LED's (turn and reverse) since the signal socket was butchered to the point of uselessness. I have everything installed, looks good. Except the hyper flash.

I have seen the this thread, the one where he modded the relay (I cannot, not enough experience with boards, or I would), the one where they argued over the guy who didn't want to use resistors, and the Tacoma forum where they modded the relay in a slight different way, also beyond my ability, and nothing on top4runners was pertinent to my questions.

Before you say LMGTFY, I have, and I understand the 'theory' on the resistors, one side positive splice, one side negative split, one for each LED. You side tap them in each circuit essentially adding load to the circuit to avoid the hyper flash.

Here's my questions:

1: Does anyone have a wire drawing of the 05 taillight harness or 07 tail light pig tail, so I can identify the signal and ground. This will let pick the best spots on the wiring to tap into. I have plenty of diagrams to the reverse that inconveniently leave the tail and signals out, so I can see which is which, plus diagrams don't say what color the wiring is.

2: Barring that, does anyone have pictures of their resistor connections so I can learn? As of right now, I plan to mount the resistors using M6 screws and nuts to the interior aluminum separating the interior trim and external body with thermal grease to maximize heat transfer to the body work, and keep it (and heat) from hitting any wiring or the fuel line on the drivers side.

3: Do the DTRL LED's (not yet installed) need to be a specific type of LED for constant use? I haven't seen info one way or the other.

4: Do the DTRL's need a resistor placed in once for each function? I am reading that they need to be combined, but I'm not sure I understand in what way, and I want to avoid an electrical gremlin being born from this.

Again, sorry to resurrect a dead thread, but I didn't want to be linked back into something I'd already read, and wanted to show I was googling for an answer, but not finding it.

Thanks in advance, I am close to being done, just need clarification on splice points.
