Will the tundra rotors (43512-0C011) work w/ the oem 4runner calipers?

just looking for a more robust rotor. also seems the PowerStop rotors get very mixed reviews.

Getting close to a year on and I figured I'd check in. I've driven over I-70 multiple times, went Colorado to Mexico and back, and have experienced nothing less than flawless braking with zero wobble or fade.

Quite happy with how it turned out, and can recommend the 199mm upgrade.

This is all great info! Out of interest, which calipers did you go with in the end? Also, have you found any squealing out of the tundra brakes, like others have mentioned?

just throwing in a mention: i went with Power Stop KC2324 Z23 and they are doing great. no complaints. i installed them a year and seven months ago (9,000 miles) and no issues after proper bedding.

I bought Toyota OEM pads and Rotors. I went with remanufactured calipers from Napa and Centric 950.44007 SS lines. They don't make the Eclipse model anymore, so not sure what the difference is. Everything works great. I am extremely pleased with the results.

Background
Just like @CO_FlyFisher, and @atalarico, I was coming down Colorado's I-70 towards Boulder and my vibrating brakes convinced me it was time to take the plunge on the Tundra Brake Upgrade. I have stock 16" 6-spokes on my 2000 SR5 and didn't want to grind them down (required to upgrade to 231mm), so I did all the digging on an "as OEM as possible" 199mm Tundra Brake Upgrade.

While [MENTION=44220]BigFishAllDay[/MENTION] has the definitive reference thread for the 231mm brake upgrade, the OEM part numbers and information on the 199mm brake upgrade is a little bit scattered and hard to find. Hopefully this summary of my research can serve as the definitive resource for folks gathering up the parts to do a 199mm brake upgrade.

Lots of credit goes to [MENTION=81047]farmerjon[/MENTION]'s build thread here which is where I got most of the part numbers from (some have been superseded in Toyota's catalog by updated part numbers, reflected in this thread). Hope this round-up is useful for folks!

Parts
The basic parts that you will need for a 199mm brake upgrade that stays as OEM as possible are as follows. I've included rough prices that you'd expect to pay from an online dealer like Camelbak (I personally use Boulder Toyota's online parts dept since they're local and price-competitive if I order online).

- 1 x set of OEM Brake Pads - 04465-0C012 - $58.24
- 2 x OEM Brake Rotors - 43512-0C011 - $126.00 ($63 ea) - note that the rotors are the same for the 199mm upgrade and the 231mm upgrade
- 1 x OEM anti-squeal shim kit - 04945-04012 - $18.75
- Calipers (see below)
- DOT3 or DOT4 brake fluid
- Brake cleaner

Calipers
If you want new OEM 199mm Tundra Calipers, they're available as part numbers 477500C011 (left) and 47730-0C011 (right). That said, you'll pay around $300 per caliper, whereas quality remanufactured components with similar performance can be had for as little as $45/caliper.

You have a ton of choices for remanufactured calipers. I did a bunch of searching and reading, and these appear to be the three best options:
- If you want that TRD red powdercoat look, pick up a set of Power Stop S2632 calipers. Currently, these are available for $85.79 for a set of both left and right on Rock Auto.
- If you don't want the red, but you still want some kind of anti-rust coating besides bare cast iron (a good idea IMO), Cardone 19P2632 (left) and Cardone 19P2633 (right) calipers are probably your best bet. Current price is $44.79/caliper. People also really seem to like the NAPA Eclipse-branded black powdercoat remanufactured calipers, but they're twice the price, most likely made by the same company as the Cardone ones, and I don't think they're available in 199mm any more.
- The important thing if you're shopping around for remanufactured calipers is to plug in "2001 Tundra V8" as your vehicle and make sure you are purchasing 13WE casting calipers, NOT the 231mm "13WL" casting. The 13WL casting is for the 231mm upgrade.

Calipers, continued
If you choose to go with remanufactured calipers, there's a good chance they'll include a "core charge" that gets refunded when you send your old parts back to where you purchased them. On paper, this could cause a problem since you're buying Tundra parts and sending back 4Runner calipers. In practice, the general consensus in all these Tundra Brake Upgrade threads is that as long as you send back a Toyota caliper in the box and don't bring attention to the difference, nobody will hassle you.

Installation
Though info about parts for the 199mm upgrade is a little scattered, the install process is well-documented as it is basically the same as the 231mm upgrade EXCEPT you will not need to grind the dust shields or wheels.

Since the purpose of this thread is mainly to provide info about the 199mm upgrade OEM part numbers and remanufactured caliper alternative part numbers, you'll want to refer to one of these other excellent resources for info about installing your new parts and bleeding the brakes:

I am 100% sure i ordered the parts as you have them on here and I double checked them and I received that part number. . Has anyone responded that they had problems with these parts?

I would suspect you have the wrong calipers in the box. Do you see any stampings or markings on the calipers?

I just did this install and thought it wasn't going to work, but it was because the rotor wasn't seated properly. I even ran a couple lug nuts down (not tight enough) to seat it. Wiggled the rotor a bit and got it to sit flush on the hub and magic.

Well, I humbly apologize, I thought I had the rotor seated but it was off just a hair. The tolerance is so close that it seemed to be the wrong caliper. After I seated it properly it fit right up.

Is this right? How can the rotors be the same if they're 2 different diameters? So just the calipers and pads are different between the 199 and the 231 upgrades? Do the 231 calipers/pads contact the rotor further out on the diameter of the rotor? I thought the whole difference between the 2 upgrades was that one is a 199mm diameter rotor and the other is a 231mm diameter rotor.

EDIT: I just realized that 231mm and 199mm can't be the diameter of the rotor since that's like 8 and 9 inches respectively and the rotors are like 12" diameter. So does 199/231 refer to the pad width or something?

Yes. The Tundra brake upgrade useez the same wide rotor. This refers to the caliper brake pad opening.

199/231mm refer to the brake pad backing plate size not the rotor.

I went on NAPAonline and saw that both the Tundra and Sequoia share the same front calipers, FYI. I'll make sure that the Sequoia has 13WL & 13WE stamping as the Tundra.

I'm going to go to the pull n pay this weekend and grab a set of each.

This will be going on my daughter's '97 4runner as her braking performance, even with the EBC Greenstuff pads aren't ideal.

I learned something yesterday at the junkyard. A '01 Tundra and a '01 Sequoia do NOT share the same calipers. One is the WE, the other one is a WL. However, a '07 Sequoia does have the WE calipers.

As a casual reader of a few TBU threads over the years, I'm more confused than ever.

I need to do something about my brakes. I have quite the wobble and popped the front wheels off at lunch and found one rotor is shedding massive amounts of rusted metal and each rotor has different wear/pad contact areas that differ by 1/2 an inch. These brakes came with the truck about 3 years ago.

I'm tempted to just grab a set of OEM rotors, pads, shims, and hardware and call it a day. I suck at bleeding brakes on my MTB and probably would fare no better trying to upgrade the calipers. On the other hand I could get an off the shelf Powerstop/other full kit and give it a shot. To me, doing the Right Thing would be to go full 2005 Tundra OEM....but I don't even have a driveway currently.....

The TBU is rather straightforward, I thought. My 17yo daughter pulled it off easily, under my guidance. She is claiming to have better and more consistent braking now, which made me quite relieved to hear.

I've found that the Valdosta Toyota parts department phone line to be very helpful for these specific questions. You may need to provide a vin though.
