Restoring shine due to compound use on a Scratch

Hi Team,

So a motorcycle splitting lanes scratched my passenger door the other night and left a six inch scratch/crease/paint trail.

Foolishly, I used a very aggressive compound paste to remove to the cycle's paint from my door (which it did), but to my horror, I discovered that I also damaged the gloss of the paint (duh--I'm kicking myself). I left a cloudy patch about an inch wide and four inches long in my door's pristine shiny paint job.

I've polished it several times with Maguire's Synthetic polish, and it helps a little, but it's still cloudy.

Any ideas for products that might help restore that clear coat gloss?

The scratch and crease don't bother me, but the hazy paint is driving me crazy!!!!

Here are some pix. Kind of hard to see, but the fogging is there.

I’m hoping some sort of product like that headlight rejuvenator exists for paint.

You'll need something more aggressive than that synthetic polish.

Copy that. Might leave this one up to a professional.

I would try meguiars m205 polish with a DA polisher before letting a professional at it, might alleviate the issue.

Oof. I'm a pro detailer - If you're comfortable using a DA polisher - try Meguars M205 with a medium cutting pad, then finish with a polishing pad and HD Speed. If you went all out with the compound you might want to get hold of a pro detailer who can asses how much of the clear coat is left. If the clear coat is compromised you'll need to go to a paint shop.

Basically what you have done is deeply scratched the clear coat and its probably a lot thinner in that area verses the shiny clear coat. Don't think you are going to polish it out. The clear coat is really damaged. I would run it by a professional. They may be able to spot spray the area.

I'm not pro by any means but that does not look like it needs to be resprayed by any means.
