Retiring my 3rd Gen, thinking of getting a 4th gen.

Hi Guys,

I have a 99 3rd gen which is pushing some high miles and need something a little quicker and newer for the longer trips. I found a 2008 v8 Limited w/ Navi and has 22+k miles on it at a dealer not too far from me. It is certified (which I have my doubts on how good the coverage is) but overall it looks pretty good - only thing is the price and color (which I can deal with if the price is right), dealer lists it for $32,000 - I know kbb is going to be roughly around that but given invoice when new for them on this car was maybe a 1000 bucks more, I am surprised if this is what they are expecting. I was hoping for around 25k although I know that might be tough - also looking into BMW 328s in that price range which are certified.... I just want a good reliable car in the mid-20s and have had good experiences with both Toyota and BMW so far.

I know a lot of people post on pricing info but any suggestions or opinions that may be helpful are appreciated. If they won't move from 32k to below 30 then it wouldn't even be worth it - better to get a 2010 SR5 4wd instead...

I did the exact same thing about 2 months ago, traded in my '99 with 175K on it for a Black '08 Sport Edition with 18K. The dealer had the '08 listed for ~29,000. So I'm not sure, but with the added bling on the Limited that might be about right?

In November '08 I bought a leftover '08 Sport V6 (the '09's were on the lot) that stickered at $35k and I paid $30k out the door after taxes and all. I sold my '00 3rd gen with 152,000 miles (I know; I sold it early but the deal on the '08 was too good. I typically have put over 200,000 miles on each of my Toyotas).

$32k is robbery.

I dont know how "new" you want one to be, but go with an 06' or 07' and save yourself a couple thousand, I know when I was looking for my 4runner I found a lot round my area from 19k-22k with still pretty low mileage and certified.

i just picked up my 2006 LMT V8 for $24.5 certified pre-owned from a dealer. added the extended bumper to bumper coverage for the next 3 years for $1800. i know i paid a little more than i could have if i were to go private party but its good to know that i dont have to worry about anything for the next 3 years. one month into getting it, the front shocks were blown and the NAV unit went out.

$32K seems high eventho it has low miles.

V8 Limited is the top Runner so you are going to pay a premium for it. I recommend the Sport same beefed up brakes and XREAS smooths the ride. In addition you get heated mirrors as well. If you must have hot seats or Nav add it later for 1/4 the cost. That's just my .02

Checked it out in person, the dealer didn't want to take more than 1500 off so it would be around $30500 for it. I reviewed the car's history and checked out clean and looks pretty good but they won't go down any further. I said no thanks but they took down my contact info. Salesman said they've had it sitting on the lot since March now...I can see why considering the price they want for it. So now I've moved on toward looking for a 2010 SR5 for approx. $28k.
