Retrofit 1998 LTD E-locker to 2000 LTD?

I found a rear LSD on a 1998 Toyota 4R LTD and I am wondering if it is possible for me to retrofit this onto my 2000 LTD 4WD? I have searched a few posts and I am still not clear as to what is involved. Any help/direction would be appreciated!

There's a good chance yours is prewired for the elocker since it's a 2000 and not an 01-02 which makes it a lot easier. It should be a pretty straight forward swap so long as you have the same gear ratio in your front diff as the elocker axle. You will also need the computer and switch for the locker. I haven't done it myself, but I think that's the general gist of it.

Thanks man. Everything is there on the donor vehicle; the switch and computer. I think I may pull the entire rear axle assembly, clean it up, make it right and tackle this.

I can pick it up for $1,100 and that is the axle, switch and control module. It may have a few parts I need to replace but the price is not too bad. If I decide to bail on it, let me know and I will see if I can pick it up for you. I am in Alabama. I am going to take photos of it tomorrow.

From what I have read, the 2000 T4R LTD 4WD came with a stock 4.10 gear ration WITHOUT the rear locker. I don't know sh!t about gear ratios so I am just curious if this is a PITA to balance the front gear ration with the gear ration of the rear e-locker?

Most likely your gearing is 4:10 & the e-locker is 4:30 so you'd have to do both diff's.

Current ratio (without the elocker) is 4.10s from everything I can find. I am fairly sure the donor unit is 4.30s. If I have to change my gear ratio on the front, I am thinking this might be too much of a PITA to attempt....

I recently did this on my 02, yes its a pain but if you do your ball joints and steering components at the same time and cvs its alright. also for the record even with my 02 axle which is slightly different i did not need to modify the elocked axle at all, just had to reuse my brake lines and thats all.

i also did the rear elocked swap not too long ago.

I REALLY didn't want to swap the front diff (they are quite heavy) so after an arduous search and research, I bought the housing and the axles then found an elocked 4.10 diff from the 1st gen tacoma.

I didn't do the rear bearings as they seem to be in a good condition, so I only did the seals and the drum brakes, before the swap.

I've done this from a 2000 auto to my old manual 97. I took basically the 3rd member and swapped the 4.10 versus the 4.30 due to auto/manual. It wasn't to difficult, a lot of pounding out the back of the axel diff housing to compensate for the e-locker and cutting for the new fit.
[MENTION=100116]D Farms[/MENTION] has a excellent point and If you haven't done any work on this part it would be easier to do (and now you could add the locker for the front@!!).

If I had to do it again, I would have done the front upgrade and put another locker and gear in as I'm sure most front ends have yet to be 'serviced' unless you did it, lol.

Why not get an ARB air locker in the rear so you don't have to worry about the gear ratio in the front?
