Looking to buy a retrofit kit from TRS. Looking at buying the Morimoto mini H1 stage III and the Morimoto mini D2S stage III. Can someone pleas explain the difference in these kits. Both seem like an easy intall. Obviously I want the one with the best light output and cutoff. Probably gonna go with 4500k light temp. Do I need to get the wiring kit as well? If you have bought one of the kits can you post some pictures.

D2S will outperform the H1 mini. If you buy the kit, it will come with the harness you need. I bought the D2S kit, but haven't installed it yet.

The H1 has a H1 bulb connector and you have more limited choices for bulbs.
Overall, the H1 projector is smaller than the D2S Gen 4 but not by much. They do fit quite well. Both are quite easy installs as they have thread-on bases and you should be able to knock off a retrofit in a few hours.
For the extra $50 go with the D2S system as you have better options for bulbs and will have a better performing projector. That's what I would (and did) do.

The new ones that come out in March are said to clip on. The earlier versions you could just glue on the shroud. I have a set of 80mm and 120mm halos that I was planning on using but decided not to. If you choose the panamera shroud these will work perfectly. Pm me if you want them and maybe we can work something out.

Mine clipped on, but very loose fit, and its recommended to JB Weld them on. I used double-sided foam tape, and held them on with that. Less permanent, but can't say for sure if it will hold up to the heat and vibration. For now, I'm glad I did it that way, because I have to take one back apart.

New ones clip on. Old ones on the FX-R and more "unique" projectors you will have to either glue on or screw on.
I clipped on the Iris shrouds and I'll see how they hold up...

D2s with Apollo 1.0 shrouds. The shrouds clipped on but very loose so I used jb weld. Painted 97 headlight housing with 99+ TYC glass.

Here's some more info to confuse you! 
D2S is always better to go with than H1. H1 is an aftermarket invention more or less and D2S is an OEM equipment bulb. The advantages of the D2S are insane. Widely available OEM ballasts and bulbs much better than Morimoto, although morimoto are very good, top of the line aftermarket equipment. IMO the 3" D2S also takes up the space of our headlight much better, the mini H1's tend to have smaller shrouds and look like of like chameleon eyes to me...
This is a killer chart made by a prolific retrofitter, Cesar of Lightworkz Global. His company is one of the best if not the best on the market and he's known for giving dubious amounts of advice and information out for free to anyone who asks even if it's not in his best business interest. This details the different projectors at the bottom, and well as different bulb and blast combinations, this is about as scientific as someone can get with this kind of testing and he is as mentioned a very trustworthy source and has no conflict of interest with regards to the sales of any of the products (he only installs).

Are these the D2S 4.0 with 3 inch lense? And the Iris shroud fit over with no trimming?
I just did a D2S 4.0 swap with Gatlin Gun shrouds, and the shrouds had to be cut and customer fitted, took forever.

Frankly they look awesome but one of the LED's died in a month, I only use them for turn signals so you'd think it wouldn't be a problem... They also come in white. Can't take credit for the idea tho, a different t4r member used them in his dual retrofit a few years back.

Yes the iris is a 3" shroud on D2S 4.0 which is also 3". There was no trimming and one of the big reasons for that is that the Iris shroud has a flat bottom.

I really like these, but do you have any pics of the install and comments about the wiring? My weak area is the wiring and this is what I'd like, but idk if I'm up for the wiring.

My company has built its fair share of D2S Retrofit's and customers absolutely love them! I would go for the D2S over the H1 9 times out of 10. I still have the H1 50w kit on my 4runner but only did so for a mini shroud that we wanted to run. If you are looking to order a projector kit I can get you taken care of, just send me a message.

The D2S (especially the 4.0) is far superior to the H1. In fact, the D2S 4.0 puts my old FXRs to shame.
You may find some old posts about how the H1 and D2S are essentially the same, but I am fairly certain that's not the case anymore. Having had hands-on experience with both, I cannot believe that.
