Retrofit Source HID install 2014+ pics

I bought HID lights the day I brought home my 2015 almost a year ago. I tried installing them, and it was such a PITA with the tight quarters that I gave up and tried selling them. No bites with reasonable offers, so I tried 2 more times to install and again, gave up. Overall I was pretty satisfied with the OEM performance, but I still had these $150 lights hanging out in my garage, so I tried one last time and got it. This thread is meant to show where I mounted stuff which worked out pretty well for those like me who are a little daunted by the thought of stuffing wires everywhere.

I mounted the relay on the passenger side front side of the engine bay. I used a bolt through a stock hole.

The driver side is really cramped with the battery, so I mounted a majority of the kit on the passenger side to include the capacitor. For the mounting of the ballasts, I used some 3m heavy duty adhesive tape. I used 10lb, and it holds great. Although I did remove the orange bolt bracket to make it less bulky.

I mounted the capacitor with some adhesive tape as well, and grounded it to the screw just below it.

I routed the battery cable under the shelf in front of the radiator and used zip ties to keep it in place.

I mounted the driver side ballast on the metal shelf just infront of the battery facing straight up, and route the grounding cable to the bolt on the side of the battery.

Note the ballast just to the right of the battery in the pic above. You can also see the fuse that routes to the positive battery lead in the pic as well.

And for the clean look using the headlight cap, I used my rotary tool to drill a hole. If I ever go back, I'll probably just seal it with some duct tape on both sides.

I know this is pretty simple and probably overkill, but if this thread helps 1 person with the mounting, then thats cool with me. Like I said, I tried 3x and gave up before I finally got it down.

I installed mine last night + LED fog lights. My installation differ a little but from yours.

I'm so happy with the led foglights but kind of disappointed with the 55K hids as it looks white from outside but from drivers side it looks yellowish and dimmer than OEM's

The 55 w hid ballast. Was it a China made one? Have you tried to switch ballast?

I ordered some China ones and they were supposedly 35 watt but the output was less then OEM incandescent. Got some a volt kit from xenon depot and now they are awesome

You know, I'm on the fence about it. Mine are 35W. It's brighter than OEM and it goes out a lot further, but it's almost like so white that I don't realize there's light out there. Kind weird, I know. Also theres uneven spots in the beam, but that could be a shadow from the bulb itself. Apparently, there's 2 versions of the bulb, A and B, I think I got the wrong one which could cast a shadow on the beam.


As far as the whiteness, it's super white. Although, when driving, about 10ft in front of the car is a yellow spot. I thought it might have bee the fogs, but turned those off, and it remained.

I have 55W Morimoto HID's in 5500K from TRS and they do not cast any yellow in front of the T4R. You didn't touch the bulb I assume.
Check your headlight adjustment. 2.5" low @ 25 ft.
See if that helps.

Did your yellow line go away after burn in? I just installed this kit and the yellow line is insanely visible. Not great.

Using a 13/16" drill bit will give you the perfect fit for the gasket. Also when choosing a kit from trs. It needs to be the "B" option.

You know, I checked last night and my initial thought was no. But after really looking I could still see a yellowish spot on the deck. I don't notice anything when looking at the beams themselves from the outside. I don't notice it anymore though, so perhaps it got a lot better. Although it sounds like your kit is doing some other weird stuff.

I got the A. Is there really a tangible difference? 40 bucks isn't necessarily a lot of money to spring on new bulbs, but I also don't want to waste money on something I'm not going to notice.

I noticed the minute I rifled off that order. Sent then am email within 10mins and they responded 2 days later telling me, too late and f*ck off. To their credit, they pointed me out to their policy that says you must call for order changes. But they were not interested in anything other than charging me a restocking fee.

I'm familiar with the difference. I was just curious if that actually amounts to a measurable difference for 'the average guy'.

andres0603;Which kit did you go with for your led and hid install? Did you get the "B" kit? Can you give us your impressions now that you've had them a while? My PIAA extreme bulbs both just went this week and I'm looking at TRS HIDS to match my Morimoto XB LEDS. The LEDS are a great colour and I'd love to match those up!

Yellow spots still remains on mine. Got little bit better, but I can still see them. Probably bulbs are made in china... i guess...
I also have one with Xenon depot extreme kit. Way easier to install since I do not have to deal with the bulky relay harness... Have not noticed yellow spots for this kit..

Do you still happen to have the pics for this install? I just recently purchased/Installed the TRS HID Kit for my high beams, (low beams still in progress), but i can for the life of me figure out where to put the hd relay. It is rediculous how bulky and out of place that thing is.

I hope you realize that HID's in the High Beam location, is more than likely not the best choice.
HID's take longer to warm up and come up to full output, which may cause you issues if you need instant light.

Most of us (that swapped from halogens) are running LED's in that location because they work well in the High Beam reflector and are instant full output.

You are very correct on that point. I realized that after the fact. TRS will most likmely deduct a huge amount given that hid bulbs are now un-sealed (as their website states). Not to mention the shipping costs as well. But alas, they are installed now. unless im able to place them somewhere else? i dont think that the 9005 hid kit can be placed elsewhere, such as the fog lights? I have the low beam install kit as well but havent installed them yet.

You may be better off trying to sell the kit.
Installing them in the fog locations, if they fit, is going to cause a lot of other issues. Possible melting of lens, blinding oncoming drivers... etc.
