Reveal Windshield mouldings help?

Anyone have any tips or tutorials for replacing the side mouldings along the windshield? Can it be done with windshield in place? Mine are fairly brittle and could use replacement.

PS...I also had windshield replacement a few years ago and guessing the old clips with the three pegs were discarded. Are these really needed?

I know nothing, but this project is on my list since a big piece of moulding came off of my windshield this summer. From what I understand the rubber protects the glue from uv rays
