Reverse Light Wiring?

I am looking at getting these lights, but I want to use them as a reverse light. I just want to make sure it is possible to tap into the trailer hitch harness, so the lights will automatically come on when the car is in reverse, with no other wiring necessary. I am not to good with wiring or electronics. Thanks.

It's the center pin under the tow-plug cover, you'll see it marked on the inside when you lift up the flap. You can do this pretty easily since your not wanting a switch. The lights I got from Cabelas came with everything needed for $30 -35.I put 'em on my 06 Tundra and when I got my 4R it was one of the first things I did to it.....after the tint.

You guys put these V-LEds on a 4th gen? If so, what do they look like? Submit some pics.

i used a small set of regular lights i got of ebay, but the v-leds look pretty cool on a vec. i believe someone on this forum has a pic of them installed, can we see em?

The lights have 3 wires, I think there is a remote, a power, and a ground. Im guessing the yellow is the remote the white is the power and the black is the ground. Does that sound righ? Which wires on the trailer harness will I have to splice into?

I'm also interested in this easy upgrade....my question is will we have to run a separate power wire from a constant power source? If you simply spliced into the trailer hookup wouldn't it blow a fuse d/t the increased load?

If we run a separate power wire and simply used the switched power wire (remote wire) from the trailer hook-up would we be able to have both sets of lights turn on when in reverse or would this overload the circuit?

Sorry if I'm unclear I'm no electrician...

As mentioned earlier, the center wire of your trailer harness is the reverse wire. I believe it is yellow.

I pondered a relay and separate switch, but decided that there was enough available amperage in the existing circuit (including the 30A fuse) to run the rear fogs I installed. I grounded at the hitch and powered from a splice in the harness. No problems at all.

Can anyone confirm that the reverse light is yellow? I am assuming everyone spliced into the reverse wire. I just got little snap splicers and plan on splicing into the reverse and ground wires. Anyone have any pics? Im really green when it comes to wiring Thanks.

On my (mostly the credit union's) 08, what ever color wire that terminates at that center pin in your tow plug is what you're after.Open the wire loom enough to get a good "bite" with the t-tap and find a good clean ground. Make sure to leave plenty of extra length in case you decide to move your lights over. I had to move mine closer to the outsides, got 'em where they'll do the most good now without being too close to the exhaust on that side. Mike
