Reverse lights not working?

I'm hoping its just a fuse , but I have gone through the manual at least 5 times. Anyone know what fuse it is for my runner? It better not be shorted out anywhere !!! BTW 98 SR5 5spd

i belive that fuse is under the hood if my memory serves me right.

I just finished pulling every fuse I could find and they are all good, but there was no designated label for backup/reverse lights so I'm wonderding if it's even there? I really can't see both bulbs going out at the same time. I remember them both working about two weeks ago when I dropped my 4wheeler off at the shop.

Have "THE SHOP" check the back up light switch plug (I think it's on the transmission).

I took my 4 wheeler to the shop, not my 4Runner. Is that plug easy to get to?

Sorry, thought they were one and the same. If you have room to crawl under my guess is it is on the drivers side of the trans. Are you auto or manual trans.

Manual, I'll crawl under there when I get off work in the morning and see if I can't find it, thanks for the help so far. Hopefully this is it since the fuses are all good.

I too find it hard to believe that both lamps went out at the same time.

i too am having this problem with my manual 98.. bulbs and fuses good.

me too. mine work, sometimes both, sometimes one, sometimes none. sometimes it wont engage for a sec or 5 seconds. really depends. i mounted reverse lights inside the vehicle at the top of the molding/plastic/rear window. so that i can roll down the rear window just a few inches and not have much glare. its quite SICK for backing the boat trailer on those dark nights, and really awesome for camping and pretty much anything else.

got them from northern tool for 11$ a piece.





you can see it at the top right where the rear window is rolled down.



i think i may spring for some of the LED tailights soon. seems like there's alot of people happy with the output of those.

If the fuse if fine, this is my guess as well. Bulbs don't burn out in pairs, lol.

If you have someone stand behind the truck, or back up to a wall at night so you can see if the reverse bulbs are lit up, and you put the truck in reverse and jiggle the shifter a bit, can you get the reverse lights to come on at all?
