Reverse switch not reading on dash.

Hey guys, having a strange issue with my rig. I got into it after work this afternoon and noticed none of my gear postitions were being read on the dash as well as my airbag light was on. My cruise didn't work nor my turn signals.

I hooked up my mini code reader and got P0706. Something to do with the "transmission range sensor malfunction". I read up on the forum and google and found my 15A IGN fuse blown. I replaced that and cleared the codes and everything worked again!....until I went into reverse. I heard the fuse pop and instantly got confused.

Further troubleshooting lead me to replacing the fuse again and turning the key on and shifting the trans. Everything reads on the dash EXCEPT when I put it in reverse. The center temp and clock gauge go dim as well. I crawled underneath and checked my connections and they all seem to be good. I took a drive and everything worked fine until I shifted in reverse and the fuse popped again.

So my question is; what part needs to be replaced?

Any help would be great!

Shot in the dark.....do both reverse lights come on (at least for the split second before the fuse pops)? Also.....any mud/gunk/crud in your trailer light wiring harness? Maybe a recent water crossing got somewhere it really shouldn't be.

Trailer harness is clean. It pops instantly when going in reverse. Getting that code has me believing the neutral safety switch is the culprit. I got some wiring diagrams and saw that switch controls the P R N D position info sent to the ECU. I have that part coming and I'll let everyone know if that fixes it.

Another reason I think that is the fault, it was working fine Sunday morning in all gear positions, but that afternoon it acted up again. I'm thinking it's just wearing out and causing the code and short.

Fingers crossed it fixes it!
