Rhino Rack Cheapness

I was wondering if anybody knew what parts I could buy at Home Depot or Amazon to recreate the Rhino Rack Eye Bolts. I honestly cannot image paying the super high cost of the Rhino Rack branded Eye Bolts and want to purchase my own.

Any help would be appreciated.

I run similar similar eye bolts like those that you've posted on my Prinsu. I found them at a local hardware store and had them powder coated black. You should be fine to use those.

Google machinery eye bolt and you should find what you need (fully closed loop bolts), or just go to the hardware store and buy some of the typical eye bolts. Either way its waaay cheaper than two bolts from RR for $27. These companies are nuts charging these kind of prices for accessories.

About a week ago I stumbled upon a 4runner with Rhino Rack in my local area and love the way it looks. After WAY too much research I am going to be ordering the Rhino Rack today.

Eyebolts are probably fairly easy to find, its the mounting blocks that will be tough. You could make your own if you have some equipment to do it or access to a machine shop. Rhino rack is proud of their accessories but they are good quality. Because of how Rhino rack mounts, vs say Front Runner who uses a bolt facing up, it makes it difficult to find stuff that will work off the shelf so to speak.

The best search term is for an "M10 lifting eye bolt" and then you'll need the t-slot hardware.

I think $20 would get you a pair and $30 should get you a set of 4 in stainless. Almost all the sets come in 5. I have no idea why.

Also M10 is really oversized. I'm surprised they're using that size.

Nice! I bought a rhino rack over the weekend from FB marketplace. Got lucky as it was in great condition and came with several accessories for almost half off. If you follow Vilmontmarket on IG, there is one for sale for 700 I believe but in Vegas.

Just installed my Rhino to my 2017. Not an easy install for getting the forward most bolts in place but a nice solid rack. As for the bolt plates why not just cut and drill a flat steel bar then epoxy a nut to it. Once it is installed the nut should stay in place even if the epoxy fails. I will be attempting this in the next few days.

It would be a lot simpler and more reliable to just drill a hole and tap it.

I always manage to break the tap (too many thumbs). Actually I will drill a big hole in the plate, insert the nut and weld it in place, the nut to the plate. Also I had to use my rack today so I used sewn slings( a loop of webbing) to wrap around the rack cross bars and tied down with that. This proved to be cheap and easy to use.

I, too, am a cheap owner of a Rhino Rack Pioneer Platform rack. I was looking for a way to mount my awning, traction boards, and cargo carrier without paying too much. Plus, I was looking for a project.

I bought 3/8" thick by 3/4" wide aluminum stock from McMaster Carr (Part # 8975K615) in 1' lengths and cut them into four 3" long pieces. I then drilled and tapped the pieces to 5/16-24 and powder-coated them black. I can slide them into the channels on the Rhino Rack and use them to secure my accessories.

McMaster Carr sells a variety of eye bolts that would work well or you can see what your friendly local Hardware Store has.

Let me know if you want a cheap idea for mounting the Rhino Rack to the top of your 4Runner. I already did that and bought the shirt.

I'm cheaper still...I bought the steel mesh rack and I think its an underrated roof rack solution. I have mounted fuel jerrys, swag and everything else up there with no issues.
