**Rickashay's OME vs. TRD Tundra/LC Review**

rickashay, if you had told DSMS that you wanted the 0.75 bushings, would they have pressed them in for you for free?

I'm not too sure, I didn't ask. It's super easy - just use some lube and a vice with some large sockets...

Cool. Gonna pull the trigger. $332 shipped. :)

You still happy with everything?

Absolutely! I was actually admiring how smooth the ride is today on a bumpy stretch of road in town. The ONLY negative thing I can say is I think it has slightly too much rake - but I have the rear cones in that I can remove if I really want to and it would lower the rear like ~1/2". I will be bumping up to the third notch (middle setting) on the front when I get my new bumper and skids on this spring.

I'm trying to figure out why my setup seems to ride so much stiffer than what you are describing. I have the tundra coils and 5100s up front and KM2s in the same size. (35 psi) Theres one dip on my daily drive that I really notice when I drive over it I can only describe it as jarring.

I'm to the point I'm thinking about different tires in a lighter load range but I would hate to spend the money if its the coils and shocks. Any thoughts?

What load range are your current tires?

Thats weird. It's really hard to accurately describe how suspension feels though, I mean it's very subjective and is based solely on the individual person's opinion of the suspension. They could feel identical and you may think it feels too stiff.... BUT, I can't see that being the case however it's something to keep in mind.

Just for a point of reference, I looked at a 98 Limited 4Runner with 90K miles on it the other day. Bone stock, one owner, dealer maintained since day 1, all service records. I test drove the bone stock well-maintained truck and in comparison I can say that my 4Runner suspension setup is still slightly stiffer than stock, but is as close as you can get to feeling like a stock but lifted 4Runner.

So, you have both Tundra TRD coils AND Tundra Bilstein 5100's with the 5 notches of adjust-ability? Do you have the same color coded springs as I do? (TRD coils from an access cab 4x4 - Y/Y and Y/B) Which notch are you sitting on with your 5100's?

I wouldn't scrap the tires until you know for sure what is going on. If it feels really harsh on one specific bump, I would suggest looking and seeing if your spindle is making contact with your coils at droop or when your vehicle rebounds hard from a large bump. Dirtco and BigFish had this issue I believe and they both now have limit straps that eliminate the coil - spindle contact and solve the issue.

EDIT: I have the load range E KM2's I believe. They are pretty stiff but when I switch back to my load range C winter tires, the difference is minimal IMO. I also run at 35 psi on the KM2's.

Load range E. Its all you can get the KM2s in 265/75 in.

I don't know on the coils specifically. I have the Sonoran Steel kit so they list it as "Toyota Progressive TRD Front Coil". Not sure on the notch but set at 2.25" of lift.

Will there be markings on the coils if I'm getting contact?

This is great info thanks!

Look at the front coils. There should be colored paint markings on them and each side should have a different combination/color of markings. I always thought I had the same coils as the SS kit but we'll see. You can also have a look inside of the coils and see how many notches are remaining to determine which notch you are sitting on - however, I bet your on the 2nd notch which is the same as me at that lift height.

Yes, there should be a mark on the side of the coil if it were making contact with the spindle. Doesnt the SS kit come with limit straps for the front?

No damage on the coils and no color markings that I can see they could be on the backside of the coil though.

Does the Sonoran steel kit give 5125 or 5100s with their kit? Maybe that's the difference? Shot on the dark.

Huh, I'm pretty much out of ideas. I am almost betting though that the SS kit has had the markings "erased" from the coils as to limit the duplication of his product. He sells a very great and complete lift setup but most of the parts can be obtained elseware so he probably has the marks painted over or something.

Maybe you have different coils then? Is there a part number on your shocks? Maybe we can see if ours match?

I hope someone else who actually has the SS kit can chime in and give there opinion of ride quality.

I did some research today... Its gotta be the suspension.

It just so happens that a girl who works at the gym I go to got a 4runner a few weeks ago. I ran a few vin-numbers for her at work when she was shopping for one so we have talked 4runner quite a bit.

Any way she bought a 99, stock suspension, with you guessed it 265/75/16 BFG KM2s load range E. When I went in to the gym today I asked how she liked her tires and if they rode smooth. She said she didn't really pay attention to it but thought they were fine. I mentioned how I thought my suspension or tires sucked and she offered for me to take her 4runner for a drive. Sweet!

I drove it to the exact spot where mine has such a jarring way of dealing with a low spot in the street. Hers went over nice and smooth barely felt it. Did it once more, didn't even notice. Took hers back, thanked her and hopped in mine and went to the dip again just for a comparison. Yep it sucks...

Maybe calling Fox when my tax return comes in for some coil overs.

What tire pressure was she running in her tires? If you want to rule out tires, you NEED to make sure you're comparing apples to apples.

I know I'm going to check them tomorrow. I didn't have a gauge on me today so for all I know she had 10 psi in them. If that's the case then I'd just do that too. haha

How old is your SS setup and could there be a chance either strut is blown?

Your honestly the first person I've heard say this setup feels rough up front!

Close to 2 years and maybe 10,000 miles on it.

The first time I took it out on a logging road I couldn't believe how the truck chattered all over the road. My buddies with me asked " how much did you pay for this lift?"

I have only heard great reviews also thats why I got it

I have had my LC 7 wraps waiting to go on because I find the 890 OME coils and sport shocks too stiff for my likings as well. What is the consensus Bilstein 5100 shock or LC Tokico shock for the LC 7 Wraps? Probably going to keep the front 881's for now to see how it rides.

If you want hella-soft go Bilsteins. If corrosion wasnt an issue up here, and I wasn't buying all 4 shocks at once (got a package of bilsteins from DSM) I would probably be running the LC Tokico's.
