Will the Tundra struts work with 99 4runner springs, or will I need to have tundra springs with tundra struts?
Thanks
rickashay this thread is the reason I decided to re-spring my 99.Wow this thread is still chugging along. Good ot see it!
Read back a few pages and lots of people are curious about how much rake they get with the LC 8 wraps and how so many vehicles sit different with the same setup. Something to consider... weight plays a HUGE factor in the rear ride height. The LC coils are not overly stiff (forget the spring rates off the top of my head) and therefore that shoudl be considered. If you have a factory rear bumper and no weight in the rear they will have a ton of rake. All the more level rigs I have seen with this setup (including my old rig that this thread was based on) has weight in the rear. (I had a sleeping platform and rear bumper).
Anyways. Carry on. Glad to see this thread still useful!
Cheers.

HELP****
very old thread but this is playing a big role in my lift so thanks to rickashay.
I'm stuck on one last thing right now before I finally install everything. Heres what I'm doing:
Front: Toytec 3" 4runner lift springs(112-620) with tundra adjustable 5100s
Rear: LC 8 wrap with _________ shocks
BASICALLY I can't decide between 5100s or the OEM Tokico black shocks for LC rear!! Can someone explain pros and cons of each please!! I daily drive my 4runner for the most part. Its stock right now but soon getting an arb front bumper(with winch later on maybe), rear swing out bumper but not anytime soon. When daily driving I usually have a cargo box in the back with random stuff like clothes and shoes or whatever and the usually basic tool set. I took of my tow hitch but still have the spare tire. I go off road maybe once a month, twice if I'm lucky lol. Don't really do or at least haven't done anything to where I really need to load up the back with camping gear and sh!t. Most I ever take is extra rain gear and some recovery straps etc. I usually go with multiple rigs and we split up gear anyway. Anyways back to my question. Pros and cons of both rear shocks... based on what I'm doing right now and the armor I'm getting what should I get. I want to do it right the first time.
What's up Christian!
Here's my take. I can only really comment on the Tokico LC black shocks. I have used them with both LC 7 wraps as well as ARB OME 861 coils. To me, they feel like a good batch for either of those coils. I would think that LC 8 wraps would fall somewhere in between the two coils I have run. To me, they are pretty comfortable and a good match for my 861s. There are tons of people on here who run that shock with multiple rear coil offerings.
I find that the ride is pleasant enough. I am not setting any speed records, especially offroad. So if you want to go fast on washboards, this is probably not your combo. But really, I don't think that the Bilsteins would do a lot better going fast on washboards. That is full Icon or King land and a little rich for my blood. I think the Tokicos are popular because they work for a good variety of coils and weights, as well as being a dependable workhorse of a shock that is fairly inexpensive.
I thought I remembered reading someone talking about their Bilstein shocks tending to sway at highway speeds. Don't take that as gospel though. I don't have them and have not had first hand experience with them. It was a long time ago that I remember coming across that, and it could have been something else causing it, but it would be something that I would research if I was looking to get them. I heard that they offer a pretty smooth ride though. If we ever link up for some trail time, you can check my set up out if you like.

P.S.
Up to you, but if I were you, I would consider putting the trailer hitch back on. It is stout and can handle getting dragged here and there just fine. If someone rear ends you without it being on, they will do a lot more damage. The rear bumper is just body mounted and wont protect much. The rear hitch can absorb a fair amount of energy, keep the frame solid while offering a little more protection than the bumper.
Thanks for the feedback! SO basically from everything i have gathered so far bilstein rides a lot softer and "cadillac" like. and the tokicos were a little stiffer but handle well. So 5100s are good for no added weight while tokicos ride better with weight. Am i right or wrong? and how SOFT is the 5100s 8wrap setup? Im probably gonna leave my sway bars on. I want a smooth ride but dont want to worry about flipping the truck mobbin around the highway or city streets.
