Ripcord,

I am a big fan of what you've done with your 4runner....it is one of many on this forum I use as inspiration for my new (to me) 2002 4runner Sport. Mine also happens to be the Thundercloud Metallic like yours so I'm particularly drawn to it. In regards to that, I really like the style of bug shield you have on the front and couldn't find it in your list of "mods". Do you happen to know the brand/model?

The bug guard is actually an OEM toyota model, it came with the truck so I never listed in my 'mods'. It broke over the winter break so I am currently running without it.
Ive been trying to find another OEM one and they are hard to find..

Too bad all the sample images are for different vehicles. It is hard to find a sample photo on an actual 3rd gen 4runner. May have to just take a chance and order one.

I like the OEM bug guard because it's more flush fitting to the curve of the hood. I have an AVS and it doesn't really follow the curve of the hood as much as your old one did. With that being said, it still offers protection and looks decent while doing it.

cause when mine broke.. (thanks to an volleyball landing on it..), they had one for about $80 dollars.. which wasn't too bad consider it was my buddy who paid for it..

Thanks for all the replies, guys.....and sorry to steal this thread too much. Madbomber, your response was exactly what i was wanting to know. The OEM one Ripcord has looks like it fits very close to the hood which is what i'm wanting. So I'll do some looking at the dealerships around here. Rip, I'll let you know if i find a decent deal on an OEM shield, if not, I'll probably go with an AVS or GTS.

If you Google search the part number you will find a few parts websites that sell it. Usually around 63-66 bucks!! Trdparts4u has it for $63 and $20 shipping. Toyotapartworld has it for $59 and $28 for shipping toyotapatszone has it for $67 and $12 shipping.

I'll probably order one in the next few days.

So still holding on the bug guard, but did go offroading for those who like pictars! :guitar2:

I only had to use the Elocker once, when conquering the same hill I destroyed my driveshaft on last time.. it just wasnt gonna happen without it. It worked flawlessly though! I would occasionally engage and disengage it while waiting and it goes in and out every time right away.

I have an AVS bug shield, and it looks perfectly identical to the "OEM' one. I bet the OEM was made by AVS. Ive never had any issues with mine whistling

Congrats on the elocker! You can leave it locked in when offroading, it won't hurt anything. I know it's tedious turning it on and off sometimes cus you have to maneuver the truck around for it to engage. I engage mine almost 100% of the duration when I go to the park. I may not need it all the time but it allows my truck to not have to work as hard. Unless I know for a fact I wont need it, I won't worry about engaging it. Most the time I need it though lol.

When in all the dirt and stuff I was in yeah I can see leaving it on. But, when I was in moab where the whole trail was actually fairly high traction rocks, I heard a lot of tires skidding when people who left their lockers on were turning. I prefer to only turn it on when I need it.





One thing I forgot to post was that I finally labeled my switches before the trip (albeit not very well), I was going to let my girlfriend drive so she needed to know what was what!

Good work dude, thanks for the pictures also. After messing around with the adaptor bracket and the stock shock location I am thinking that a shock mount relocation is in my future.

Nate, I highly recommend the shock relocation. That dang bracket would not shut up for me no matter how tight I made it. Plus it opens you up to different types of shocks, I find a lot more brands carry the eye-eye shocks than the stud-eye shocks.
