Road Handling question?

Hello. Newbie here.

Was wondering if anyone has any handling problems with their 3rd gen. I've noticed that my vehicle jerks a lot when I hit bumps or the lane markers. Is it how the vehicle handles, or could there be something wrong? I have a 00 Limited 2wd with Kelly Safari tires

Any help would be appreciated.

Thats how they all are. Mine is pretty bad also. Its because its basically a truck... There isnt anythng wrong with yours
 
I've heard that the 4Runner shocks last a long time, but excessive bounce could be an indicator of them being worn out. Open the back door and sit down with your feet dangling. Bounce your butt hard a couple times. If the truck simply rebounds, it's fine. If it rebounds and then sorta bounces a couple more times, it's a pretty good sign that your shocks need replacing. This is more a general susp. test. But it's worked for me in the past on cars that started bobbing too much.
 
Thanks for the help. I'll check the shocks and suspension. I don't notice it all that much, but my girlfriend who drives it occasionally complains that it pulls too much when she hits a bump.
 
I have mentioned the stiffness on and off in other threads. The stiffness is good in off road situations. My guess is your girlfriend will get used to it and later on start driving it and maybe even wanting to keep it. My Wife tries to steal mine all the time. You are warned.
 
Mine tends to bounce all over when I hit a series of smaller bumps. I just had new Bilstein shocks installed and AT Revos and it still does this. I think thats just the way they are. Check this out though: Bad weather (snow, rain, etc.), she rides as smooth as can be. 4Runners in my opinion, are better riding in crappy weather. I'm going to have some anti-sway bars from Performance Products (.com) installed to stabilize it some, but I'm not expecting stellar results. I'll let you know how they work out.

They will make a huge difference. W/ my lift and bigger tires, the truck was all over the highway even w/ new bilsteins. Once I put in the sway bars, it rides better than stock height w/ stock tires.

I can take high speed turns on the freeway where I'd be scared as crap to drive over 70 mph w/ the lifted truck before the sway bars. Good luck.
 
I know exactly what would cure this, but has anyone done it? A Steering stabilizer kit would be great. Is there one for the 4runner??

I don't believe that 3rd gens have stabilizer bars. 2nd gens do.
 
3rd gens dont have steering stabilizer bars... perhaps new torsion bars and perhaps realizing that women dont have any say (esp. gf's) about your truck....
