Road Rage incident

Alright, so I’m writing this as I’m pissed off, so if I use some language, please forgive me.

This evening while coming home from grabbing some yogurt with my girlfriend we were involved in a weird situation.

Long story short: I’m turning right from a turn only lane onto a road that has two lanes. Before I turn, I see a black mustang behind me (fifth generation mustang) there is only one lane to turn onto the road we were going to, and two lanes on the road we turn into once you’re on it. Naturally, since I don’t want to rub my tires and rims on the curb, I always turn into the left lane on that road. As I’m in the left lane I notice that black mustang riding my tail....I speed up to get him off of me, but he continues to stay on me. At this point by the time I sped up, I couldn’t get on my right lane because a car was there now. We come to a light shortly and he decides to get into the very left lane (which is a turn only) and cuts in front of me while we’re stopped at the light.

Anyways, the dude is waving his hands flicking me off for no reason that I can think of. As we continue down the road I keep my distance from him since he’s in front of me at this point. We are coming up to another red light with him on the right lane and me on the left this time, as I’m slowing down to the light I’m slowly passing him coming to a stop and he throws a metal rod at the passenger door and hits my vehicle with it. He gets behind me at that point and turns off into a subdivision quickly. By the time I could turn around and call the cops I couldn’t find where he went.

I’m really only writing this to vent. The damage isn’t bad but he definitely scuffed my paint and made three dents in my passenger door. Anyone ever have random road rage incidents like this? Can’t think of a reason he was so pissed, but this vehicle is my baby and the fact that this dude would damage my car for no apparent reason pisses me off.

Also, anyone know how to pop some dents out at home without taking it to a body shop?

Thanks and y’all drive safe. Never know hat dumbasses are out there.

Another reason to get a dashcam.

Not defending a guy in a Mustang, but I always stay to the right lane when making a right turn like that. If I need to get in the left lane then I immediately signal left and change to that lane. Occasionally there's a nobody behind me that gets mad at me for doing this(apparently he needs to pass me in his RAV4), but he's a nobody. It's safer IMO, especially if there's a speeding Mustang already coming down that left lane. I've seen some pretty nasty rear collisions from right turns where the dude turns onto the left lane while there's a car coming. If you're worried about rubbing your tires on the curb then you need more driving practice IMO.

Dang, that guy's a moron. A dash cam would have been nice to snag a license plate.

You ever see his Mustang parked somewhere, prep a couple valve stem caps with a super-glued BB inside, and replace one or more of his caps with your caps. The BB will press down and let air out of his tires untraceable by the tire shop.

Probably just jealous of you girlfriend eh?

Haha, thanks for the laughs man. I need them.

Don’t know what his problem was. That....crap (for lack of a better word) pissed me off though. Was enjoying such a nice night out and then this happens. I already know what subdivision he lives in because he turned off into it, but it was a gated community and I couldn’t get in. The cop didn’t even offer to take a drive in there and see if he could find the car. Worst part is, I only carry liability so this issue and damage cost is on me

At some point this guy will mess with someone just as crazy agressivw and will come to a bad end.

People in San Antonio are unfailingly friendly except on the road.

Had something similar happen to me the other night at like 9 pm on my way to my girlfriends. Was on i-40 east and this f-550 came out of nowhere. I was probably going 80 in the fast lane and all the sudden he rolled down his window and flicked me off then floored it got in front of me slammed the brakes then went behind me with his brights on. Anytime I tried to let him pass he would just switch lanes. I think by the end up it I had hit about 90 mph and had white knuckles from clenching my steering wheel. There are some crazy a** mother******* around.

Sorry to hear that man. Some people just have it out for others for no reason. Part of my thinking is jealousy towards our nice rigs but you can never assume.

I never try and provoke people. You just never know nowadays.

Bexar county is actually rated one of the highest road rage cities in the nation.

I need to move to a small town haha

I've lived in San Antonio a long time, have seen some road rage incidents over that time in the city and also a few outside the city in smaller towns. Some people change from Jekyll to Hyde when they get behind the wheel. I try to stay calm when I'm driving, you never know when some fool is going to escalate an argument with a weapon and take things to the next level.

As for your door, you can remove the inner door panel and with the window rolled up you might be able to access the area where the dent is and hammer it out. Removing the door panel is easy, all you need is a screwdriver and something to pry the panel away without breaking the plastic pieces that hold it to the door.

I use a panel popper tool, you can get those just about anywhere and it works great. Unplug your window and door locks and set the panel on the ground and you can access the door from the inside, you should be able to work the dent with a body hammer and dolly. Good Luck.

I hate to be that guy, and let me preface this with I am only quoting Colorado laws as I only live here... It is illegal to make a turn and end up in another lane. You make a turn from the right lane, you end up in the right lane on the road..until you signal properly for another lane change to the left lane.

Now, I realize I am not being very helpful in your quest for damage repair knowledge.. I do know I have almost lost my f---ing mind at people doing this exact same thing and ending up cutting me off. I'm just trying to offer possible insight as to the WHY of this encounter.

That all being said, you said there was only one turn lane and therefore this scenario does not really apply to your situation and this guy just sounds like a typical Mustang D---hebag. But I typed all this anyways so here's some more clutter on your thread.

I would be interested to know if leaving your lane during a turn is legal in your state though...

Whether it's legal or not it's ignorant as hell.

I didn't see any of it, but if op turned right into the left lane then op is wrong and needs to learn to drive. I need a dash cam so that I can smash into people when they pull these maneuvers and make them pay for a new arb bumper. Operators licenses in this country are ridiculous, you get tested once when you're 16 and you can go 70 years or more without ever being tested again: bloody ridiculous

Turning right into the left lane is like a minor infraction where I live. Like not signaling or parking on a line. Nothing to get angry about, I do it literally 8 times a day on my way to and from work for the past couple years with no ill effect. Sure it's lazy but who cares. If there is a cop around I might behave a bit better, but I don't see the problem most of the time it's 100% safe.

Gotta be honest, I had another dumbass make a right turn into the left lane as I was coming through. Switched to the right lane in the Knick of time then cut his ass off along with a mean brake check. Can’t stand people who do this. OP please stop doing this.

Wait a sec here. So, those of you saying that IM in the wrong for turning on the ONLY turn lane and getting in the left lane when the dude in the mustang was BEHIND me this whole time. So you’re saying I’m in the wrong for it, but the guy behind me was in the right for doing the exact same thing, but yet I’m the one who needs to learn to drive?

I literally told the cop the exact story I put on here and he said that should warrant no reason for this guy to act the way he did.

Regardless of who you think was in the right or in the wrong, that’s your decision and I honestly don’t really care that much. I was only asking if anyone else had any sort of actions like this taken against them at any point.

That's a very dangerous pay-back to admit to doing. Next time, you may not have a satisfying end to such a transaction.

Expensive, even deadly results happen often from this sort of thing.

I don’t know if I explained this right in the first place, but just to make it clear....the road I was on is Blanco Road. It has four total lanes. Two coming north and two coming sound. Right off of blanco road there is a road called Wilderness oak, it ONLY goes east from blanco road. There is no 4 light intersection, so no one can be coming from wilderness oak going east from the other side of the light. If I pulled out IN FRONT of him and cut him off, I don’t blame the dude. I’d deserve it. But, when I’m going north on blanco road and turn in the one lane that there is to turn east onto wilderness oak and the mustang is BEHIND me this whole time, I don’t find that it should be an excuse for these actions.

Just to give an idea. I’m the red, he was the black

Couldn’t agree with you more.

Hey, I live about a mile up the Wilderness Oak hill from that intersection. It's a speedway, once or twice a year the motorcycle cops work it for a day or two.

Last guy who brake-checked me was on I-85, light traffic, Atlanta, GA. Cop saw the whole thing, driver (out-of town guy in a rent car) was arrested. GA is tough, all traffic violations are misdemeanors and are arrestable, especially if you talk tough to the cop.
