So just a story to remind us to keep cool.

Two lane southbound 45mph limit around 10am clear and dry with Santa Ana winds. Camry in left lane is yelling via the passenger window at a gravel truck driver screaming his head off pulling next to him in back of him in front of him. I'm behind the Camry. He pulls equal to the drivers side fender slows down then speeds up and rams the truck on the left front headlight. His car pivots in front of the truck and is pushed about 20 yards crashing into another parked vehicle. Guy gets out (I'm on the phone to 911) and starts yelling at the truck driver who gets out and runs to the median. Guy in the Camry kicking the truck. Cops swarm in about 3 minutes. Cite the guy (his car toast) take my statement.

I ask the cop what was the deal and he says that the Camry guy had some gravel fall onto his hood. We both roll our eyes and talk about Alaska. Camry dude is going to lose his license loses his car and probably will be sued.

I tell ya. I get hot sometimes to. Seeing this was unreal. Glad it was California = fewer guns.eace:

You never know what someone else is dealing with, where their head is at.
Maybe they just found out their wife is cheating or their daughter is preggo or their identity was stolen and bank account has been emptied... They might be itching for a reason to go off.

Be careful out there folks... and keep your pistol handy.

Not sticking up for the guy in the Camry who over-reacted and is not too smart to take on a gravel truck with a Camry BUT, he may have been driving normally and not tailgating when the incident happened. Gravel will bounce and dent your car, crack your windshield, etc. Trucks cargo should be secure, no matter what type or size of truck. See too many jackasses in pickup trucks that think nothing will ever come out of the bed of their truck....or they just don't give a rat's ass if it does.

Maybe the Camry driver tried to get the truck driver to pull over to let him know his load caused damage to his car and the truck driver ignored him or flipped him off or something. I don't know if the OP saw the whole thing or just came upon the incident midway. But I agree with the OP to keep it cool.

This story is weird; whenever I have driven a Camry I have almost been almost comatose with boredom.

Do not see how I could be enraged enough to take on a grav truck when almost asleep...

In some states they are NOT responsible. NH is one of them. You drive in NH and get hit by a stone from a gravel truck.....oh well. In MA...well that's a different story.

Quite the road rage incident. I definitely can sympathize with the guy being upset getting hit by road debris but to start driving aggressively and actually ram the truck? Guy must have had a death wish!

We actually went through a 'rock' thing two weeks ago. I was driving my girlfriend's car and had just merged onto a highway. A flat-bed, heavy equipment hauler (unladen), was several hundred yards ahead of us spewing large quarter-size rocks and mud (must have just unloaded something at a site). Despite my best attempts to avoid the rocks we took a hit off the top of windshield (on top of the rain sensor and out of sight) so we thought we had gotten away unscathed.

When she got to work she noticed the huge chip and called the insurance company to come out and patch it (most insurance companies will do this as a 'free' service). By lunchtime it had warmed up outside and she went out to find a 12" crack down the windshield.

So, long story short, insurance company would have gone after the truck had we got the plate number (I guess this is possible in Virginia?). But, it ended up costing us a good chunk of change to get a new windshield. So when in doubt - get the plate number if the debris has FALLEN OFF THEIR VEHICLE. I highly doubt we were the only vehicle damaged by that truck. Of course, getting close enough to get a plate number off the truck may have caused even more damage.

Exactly, lol. If you've got someone's road rage on your hands, just hope you're faster and a better driver than them. Now, if they ram you off the road (which, driving a tank, I doubt it would happen unless you get T boned by a semi lol) its a different story, but then I'd say screw the pistol, get an assault rifle

As a prior dirt and rock truck driver ( still a truck driver ), that was not the best way for him to handle the situation, granted mad and wanted to do something about it, NEVER and I mean, NEVER try to ram, pull in front to stop them, no matter what you are driving, your ride will never win.

I've been on both sides of falling rocks and debris.

If you have the unfortunate situation of debris falling off and hitting your vehicle, and with all commercial trucks have the license plates are on the front of the tractor and is the better one to get as some drivers tend to pull other people/companies trailers ( get the trailer plate # also). So not to put yourself in a harder situation, take down the name and numbers on the door. The insurance company can track that number to the driver/owner.

Personally when I'm driving my DD, and I'm coming up on one of these trucks, I tend to go around them as quickly and safely as possible. Never know when or where the stuff may fall out from.

As drivers of these types of trucks, it is hard to remove, cover every inch of there loads, but, then, I've seen other truck drivers not give a sh!t about caring of there loads either.

Here's my most recent road rage story too add to the thread:

A couple of months ago, driving home on Sunday morning after a weekend vacation to the mountains, I had a guy literally run me off the road. Imagine a traffic intersection like the one in the attached sketch. The road on the other side of the intersection widens to 3 lanes, and before reaching the intersection, the road widens out enough for 3 vehicles to safely stop at the light; however, the lines are not painted for 3 vehicles yet. The light is red, so I pull up on the far right as I'm peacefully chatting with my wife. All of a sudden, I hear this douche bag cussing me to my left. I give him the death stare, look away, and accelerate at a normal rate when the light turns green.

The next thing I know, this guy's right front fender almost hits my door as he swerves over on me. I swerve to the right, over the curb, into the grass, and slam on my brakes, barely missing a mailbox as this guys side mirror hits my own forcibly enough to collapse my mirror. Luckily, my wife and I were both packing. When I caught back up to him at the next red light I flashed my revolver at him, and he decided to stay well behind me the rest of the time that we were on the same road. Needless to say, I've never been more angry about a traffic incident in my life. I just don't understand why some idiot thinks it's his job to be the traffic police in a situation that was putting neither of us at risk in the first place.

Similar thing happened to me last week on the way to work, except swap the Xterra for a Civic...lol. And the guy didn't intend to sideswipe me, it was an honest (read: bonehead) mistake. I ended up with an impaled front right tire/dinged wheel since he forced me into a curb and some minor dings on driver side door. He ended up with a crunked-up front end and headlight all smashed. Waiting to see what Insurance says, hopefully they make the right decision.

I'm glad you found a way to turn this story in to a lesson on gun control, when the facts suggest PEOPLE CONTROL was clearly the problem. Dude used a 3-thousand pound missile to attack another human.

Just to be clear, what would you have done with a pistol in this situation?

Would you say the trucker "reasonably believed he was in imminent danger of being killed, injured, or touched unlawfully?" That's the justification for self defense in California.

Well gun control was hardly my general point however since your opened the door...

People behaving like this guy was a hair shy of escalating. A gun in his car would have been his choice imho. From there you get him threatening the truck driver and within a minute or so the cops arrive (all 6 of em) weapons drawn. Turns out Camry guy can't hear so well and starts firing at the truck. Cops unload. Bloody mess. Being an ER RN I go over and look the situation over. "Looks bad" I say. Cop says, "Careful, he may have a bomb strapped to him". I say, "Your'e right white guy in his 70's driving a Camry and attacking a gravel truck, sheesh no brainer...he's strapped".

Anyway.....glad the guy was not carrying. :beer:

So yea the whole less guns = more peace is BS just means criminals get to a 2nd chance to commit a more serious crime

violent road ragers: You DESERVE TO DIE

Yep, I was a victim of road rage today in downtown Allentown. Some dumbass in a late model 750iL cut me off so much that I had to slam on my brakes. A couple of lights down, we both make a right onto a street, but I wasn't going to do anything, because, well, why? Anyway, we both get to a red traffic light and he gets into the left lane to make a left and I stay in my lane to continue onto my destination up ahead. Both our cars stopped next to each other, windows down, him with raggaeton blasting and I yell, "use your f**king turn signals next time". he yells something back, but the light turns green and I just left. He abruptly cuts somebody off to chase me to the strip mall I was heading to (I was heading to the bank) and I saw what he was doing. I get out my cell phone to call 911 just in case. Anyway, I go to park, but never get into my spot, he pulls up next to me and parks his car and quickly gets out. "b****, get outta your car" he yells. I get out the cell phone to take a pic b/c I see he isn't armed, then he yells, "I'm going to kill you b****". I took a snap and TOOK OFF. I wasn't going to stick around and wait for the cops. Right after I take off, the dumbass throws something hard at my car and damages it. I didn't stop, like I said, I just wanted to get out of there.

Headed to my parents house about 15 min away and called the police. I tell them a guy cuts me off, chases me down b/c I yelled at him, tells me that he is going to kill me, then damages my cars by throwing something at my car. The police officer tells me to come downtown to make/file a report.

I head downtown to police headquarters, tell an officer to what happened and gave them pictures that I printed out (damages to my car AND the perp and his car). He pretty much tells me that if I hadn't yelled at him, none of this would've happen. OF course, this is true, but even if I insulted his mother, he didn't have the right to threaten to kill me OR damage my car.

What irks me is that my 2 year daughter is sometimes with me, what if she was with me and his guy had hit the window?? He would've smash it and injured her. NO doubt if that had happened, I would've tried to ram the son of a b****............. yeah yeah, I know, but it didn't happen. Whatever.

You guys have no idea how much I want to see this guy burn.

Anyway, the same body shop that I took my 4Runner to a couple of days to fix the bumper (that a valet damaged). Luckily, they said it would buff off and they would try a dent removal procedure (tech goes to the inner part of the door and uses a tool to smooth out the dent). As you can see in the pics, it's not bad. I'd rather they try that than to repaint the door which pretty much means they will also paint the quarter panel AND front door to color match. That will cost at least a grand. This procedure was quoted at $95.

Called my insurance just in case to let them know what happened in case the dent removal procedure doesn't work. $95 vs. $250 deductible.
Anyway, I'm a believer in Karma and boy is this pile of shit going to get it.

I have a pic of the perp and his shitty car, but probably best NOT to post. I don't know who he is and how this MIGHT blow up in my face.

You obviously failed to learn your lesson, which was not to yell at a ghetto fool driving a rich man's car blasting music. I would leave the damage on your car as a lesson, if I were you. Next time it could be a lot worse, for your daughter especially. Ask yourself if what you had to say was worth it.
