Road trip: NJ to IN - hows the drive?

Well this summer I have a mechanical engineering internship in Burns Harbor, Indiana.

Anyone ever make it to Indiana from the North East? Whats the drive like? Im going to leave on Sat, drive halfway, stay in a hotel and finish on Sunday. Im living at the Purdue University Satellite campus for the summer and working at ArcelorMittal.

Anything you recommend I bring other than my $hit?

Google Maps says its about a 13 hour drive roughly 800 miles.

I drove several times from IN to NJ and NY ....the last time was in late 2004 tho'.....so dunno if the road has change or what since then ...but I do remember it was a straight shot!...No GPS back then... :). The first time it took me about 14 hours I got lost in OHIO...jejeje was my first ever roadtrip....but the next couple of times I made it in a little bit over 11 hrs. Straight shot.
 
Yea Im taking 80W for what looks to be nearly the entire time.

Is it a scenic drive? Any places you recommend I stay overnight about halfway in between?

Are you taking the PA Turnpike to the Ohio Turnpike? PA is scenic whether you take 80 or 76, especially west of Harrisburg on 76, and Ohio and Indiana are mostly flat and boring. I made the Philly to Chicago run on numerous occasions but only as recent as last October. And why are you stopping for the night? I make frequent trips from Chicago to Vicksburg, Mississippi in about 12-13 hours and the trips from Philly to Chicago is about the same.
 
Well.... you going up North I am from Central Indiana.
U taking I-80...I took I-70 each time and non stop. So there is not much I can tell you about the scenic or a place to stay. Sorry but as far as I remember they where nothing really really special ..maybe because I was focused on who was waiting for me at the end of the road... :) .:driving:

Because it's not my dollar that's paying for any expenses getting there. Food, gas, and hotels are all covered.

Not a spectacular drive as far a scenery.

I would suggest, depending on your interests and route, either the Dayton National USAF museum or the Cleveland Rock 'N Roll HoF. Or you can do both with some slight detouring. Or the pretty girls at Bugsy's Speakeasy in Elyria, OH, will take your lunch money (Google it.)

Enjoy the drive and watch out in OH, their troopers would love to catch you.
 
I took a road trip a few years ago from Boston to San Diego. For that leg of the drive I followed I-95 in NJ all the way down to Baltimore, MD. Took I-70west to I-68 to US40 west then got back on I-70 again somewhere near Washington, PA and stayed on that for a while through Ohio then into Indiana. The drive on US40 was scenic, but not much to rave about through Maryland, West Virginia, Pennsylvania and Ohio. I not saying that those states have nothing of interest for visitors, but I pretty much stayed on the highway through those stares except for rest stops, eating or staying overnight. Much of what I enjoyed on that trip was out in the southwest and west. Overall I enjoyed the drive since it was seeing all new places some of them for the first time. Lots of farms and cornfields in Indiana. Have a safe trip
 
I made it, decided to go straight through. 750 miles, left at 1245 and got there 145 eastern time. Total stops about an hour.


Easy drive, shitty scenery, dumpy part of the country imo.
