Roadtrip 9/21: SoCal to Portland, OR

Three buddies and I are driving from Southern California up to Portland, OR. this Wednesday 9/21. Planned stops are;

San Jose (lunch with a friend)
Monterey Bay Aquarium
San Francisco
Six Rivers/Crescent City (overnight camping- Bigfoot country :thumb3

On the way back we are staying the night in Sacramento at another friend's. Planned stop at the lava tubes (Lassen National Forest)

Any suggestions for stops? We would be totally up for a stop at a ghost town, good brewery, scenic drive, anything else fascinating like a haunted house!

I want to bring my .357 but don't want to break any laws. As long as it's empty, and the bullets are in back/glove box i'll be okay right? I don't have CCW and don't plan on having it "out".

Any comments or suggestions about how to pack for the trip would be greatly appreciated too! Very interested in hearing what you guys have to say

Sounds like a blast. I've been to all those places. My favorite places in Portland are the Columbia River Highway & Forest Park. Lassen park is very scenic. Lava tubes (Lassen) is interesting but short. Lava beds (Modoc Natl forest) is out of the way, but if you have the time worth it.

Stop in Chico, CA just off Hwy 99 at the Sierra Nevada Brewery. Get the sampler.

I take my gun on most trips. Just keep it unloaded and in the back. I can't speak on the legality of crossing state lines with it. But should be OK.

Stop at the Oregon Vortex, always wanted to check it out myself but never have. Rogue River Brewery possibly. If you're in the Pearl district of Portland check out my cousin's restaurant off of 23rd, Northwest Public House

I second the Sierra Nevada Brewery stop in Chico. Also, last I checked pistols had to be in a locked case/box during transit in CA. Most probably don't do it but then again it would suck to get stopped.

If you're going near Eureka, Ca then check oiut Lost Coast Brewing Co. Wanted to check it out last time I went to Cali, but didn't want to drive the 4+hrs up there from San Fran.

i live in Novato, about 20 miles north of the city on the 101. i live 2 miels from Moylans brewery, but if you want some good **** you need to go to Russian River, they are one of the top rated breweries in the world. hit me up if you wanna swing by and smoke one or something.
