Rocky Road Sliders very Rusted!
I have the Rocky Road Super Sliders on my 2010 4Runner SR5 and I added 3/8" thick spacer plates where the sliders are mounted to the frame to extend the sliders out 3/8" and they work and look great. These sliders are well made but with 30,000 miles on my truck and 25,000 miles on the sliders, no off road or beach wheeling they are so rusted and corroded underneath (I mean really bad). The parts of the sliders that you see are not as bad but still show rust in many spots. For something that is powder-coated these look like they are 15 years old underneath with rusted metal flaking off. I'm not sure but these have only been on my truck for about 3 years and this amount of rust is far beyond what I expected. It looks like I'll have to remove them and use Por-15 on them to stop the rust.

Trimming Limited Rocke Panel Trim
I know the quoted posts are old and I believe Okki just sold his 4Runner, but I personally I aguish Okki. Installing the Toyota TE trim looks much more finished than cutting the Limited trim. When you cut the Limited trim you not only end up with losing the wraparound protection on the bottom of the rock panel trim, thus exposing the door/body metal underneath, but its hard or impossible to get a straight cut on the Limited trim and that looks bad to me, even with installing that aftermarket edging along the cut that someone used. I just recently installed the TE rocker panel, front flare end piece, and the rear door flares, all of which I had painted to match first (painting not necessary if you don’t mind the black..
I’m very happy with the look, now I can install the Shrockworks rock sliders I’m ordering shortly (wanted to get the rocker panels/rear door trim done first) after I get back from Colorado where I’m driving to have my Gobi rack installed at the Gobi shop (leave tomorrow, excited!).
Of course, to each his own according to tastes and willingness/ability to pay the extra money, but if you can do it the Toyota rocker trim is the way to go. Shrockworks also sells a black steel rocker trim replacement, which I considered, but I really don’t like the look of the bolts in the body behind and below the doors when you open them. You can see this on the Shrockworks site.

Forget what you heard. Forget what you think. Forget what you know.
Sliders are made of very heavy duty high carbon steel and are supposed to take a tremendous amount of weight without breaking or bending.
No matter what type of coating they have, from rattle can, to a professionally applied powdercoat, if you live in harsh environments they will rust.
It is your responsibility to take a good care of them and re-spray them, if necessary.
Otherwise, because of trail damage, and road damage, they will look like ass. Like mine do.

This is why I chose rattle can.
I'm still painting them, yet to install.

And, being arid, rust is a minimal concern.
Touch up will be part of my "oil change" (lube-oil-filter, tire rotation, slider and skid touch up)
