I bought one of these to install under my radio. As I have a 6 tray rocker switch plate. This rocker switch looking charger comes only with positive and negative and it illuminates. How ever I don't know if it illuminates when only plugged in or when it gets power. I wish it had a independent led. But anyways, how should I wire this safely. And I would much rather have the illumination be when I turn the headlights on.

I have the same switch and panel. The best setup is to run power from a fuse panel through an off/on switch to USB charger then to a ground. It does light up as soon as power is put to it; hence the on/off switch for the whole panel.

What size amp you using ? Is a relay necessary?

I am using a 20 amp fuse. The relay is best so as to not have a constant feed of power to the switch(es) 24/7. While the load is minimal for a few LED lights the other devices that will be getting power as well can drain your battery.

You can wire it to a source that's switched by ignition, or any switch you want. A relay isn't necessary at all.

x2 for the ignition wire switch. That's sort of automotive wiring 101, if you only want it when the car is on you tap the ignition wiring.
