Rodent strikes again!

While we were out camping last weekend, a rodent moved into the engine valley on the wife's 4Runner. Since it was a little bit crowded in there, it remodeled a but by chewing through the knock sensor wiring. :ybrick:

I've started getting torn down. As you may know, the Toyota engineers didn't leave much room to get to them. I'm going to have to remove one cylinder head just to get to the harness. I'm not entirely certain the extent of the damage, but will post what I find. :biggrin2:

next time maybe you can buy a rodent repellant and spread it around the car where you parked it so they don't mess with your car.

This will sound crazy, but if you piss near your tires, the rodents will stay away.

Wow you have to remove a cyl head to change the harness. On reinstallation stuff moth balls around where the mice were congregating. That will deter them during your next camping trip

It's just **** luck tho. I parked next to my mom on grass for years (both drove Corollas) and never once had a problem. Were as they tend to come and go from her car, they never do any really damage just mouse drops here and there plus a chewed up cabin air filter every now and then.

This is why I keep two feral cats and a boa constrictor in my car at all times. People think "man that guy is wired", but I haven't had a rodent problem since I gave Richard Gere a ride home from the Oscars.

I found an entire bag of those multi-colored goldfish stashed in the forward wire runs/door sills when installing my sound system. I can't even imagine how those bas****s got them all in there... I hate mice!

I have heard that peppermint oil will keep mice out. I put a few cotton balls soaked with the stuff in the wire runs before closing them up.

My guess is that between the the goldfish and peppermint oil, you are going to end up with chubby rodents with kissably fresh breath.

I know, right ?! The other side was the same story (rest of the bag) I still have no idea how the mice carried them into that space whole.

At any rate, it was from the previous owner. He's a bomb squad commander so the 4Runner sat a lot while the owner drove this big bomb truck around.

Yah one at a time, it would have taken forever!...I'm curious as to how they get into the truck. The only place I can think is where ever the air comes in for the climate control but I'd assume that would get covered with mesh or something.

Hey all - been a busy week at work and haven't been online much after work. I'm planning on getting some pictures up for y'all tomorrow. I've taken the day off so I can tear into it and get it finished up before the next round of rough weather hits here. So far I have the intake off and part of the cooling system. I work 4 - 10s which leaves very little time to work on it during the week.

Hotels and such wouldn't have helped a bit - the 4Runner was parked at home when the vicious little bugger struck. I am already thinking about ways to prevent anything from getting in there again. :lasercannon:
