Rola Rack question

I've done my research and know the rola rack is strong, but will rust within a year. I can get it rhinolined for free so that's not a problem. I plan on getting an extension on it and mounting it to the factory rails. Anyway I've looked and can't really find any pics of many rolas with TRD logos on them. So if anybody has any pic of their rack at all with their TRD decal logo on it or something else can you post it here. Looking for some inspiration.

Rola Rack with TRD sticker. hard to see, but there. i suggest having the join areas where it goes together welded for more strength. also then having painted. mine lasted about 2 or 3 months before looking bad.

I Don't mean to thread jack, but what is the best way to get the Rola rack to sit more flush with the roof line? Meaning NOT using the stock cross bars?

Can you swap a 4th gen rack to fit the Rola? I want a Rola really bad but refuse to have the rack sit 10 inches above the roof line?!

Lowered mounts for a Rola roof rack. There ya go.

Also, like they said above, weld the parts together and then paint it. I haven't had ANY rusting issues yet.

Yeah I'm definitely gonna mount em to the factory rails and not the crossbars. I didnt think to reweld the joints. I figured the rhinoliner would cure the rust issue, but if the welds are that bad..No wonder it's such a bargain

Rola rack

i cut the included mounts in 1/2 and welded them on the rack... used the cross bar screw tie to secure it to the factory rail with the factory insert that keeps the cross beams in the roof track system


i also welded the extension cut in 1/3,,,, gave me 2 extra basket rails
it sits super close to the roof.

You know i haven't really had anything up there yet but it has 3 mounting points on each side.... So 2 more than the previous stick setup had.... The roof rack cross rails were rated for 175lbs each I believe so I'm guessing at least 300lbs....

My concern is the roof rails where they are mounted... I pressed down on one side one day and the roof flexed a little... So that's my main concern... But otherwise it's the standard weight governed by the Rola itself and whatever the 4runner's roof can hold...

Anyone ever put TOO MUCH weight on the top of their truck regardless of a roof rack or not? Curious if anyone ever had a weight issue

Nice, im just working out the mounting on my design and this helps to give me a better idea. Hopefully by next weekend or so i will have it all complete and ready to purchase the parts.

[MENTION=93300]GhostRing[/MENTION] I'm bumping this old thread because I really like your simple mount and I'm planning on doing something like this. Just curious what size/thickness angle iron you used. By my measurement it looks like 1.25" angle iron gives enough clearance over the curve of the roof and I'm thinking 3/16" thick should be plenty strong. Any thoughts? How's yours holding up and how much weight have you put up there? Thanks
