Shame on the magazine if they did not do some fact checking behind the reporter. My grandfather belonged to that fraternity and my brother, sister and mother (for grad school) attended UVA. My kids want to go there. There has been other charges of the school taking inadequate action on sexual assault. This was published in 2004:

How UVA turns its back on rape | The Hook - Charlottesville's weekly newspaper, news magazine

This gang rape at the SAME fraternity got a conviction 20 years after it happened because one of the participants wrote an apology letter to the victim. Virginia has no statute of limitation on rape.

'I harmed you': 21 years, 12 steps later, rape apology backfires | The Hook - Charlottesville's weekly newspaper, news magazine

Maybe the reporter was "inspired" by other stories but she's probably done a lot of harm to real concerns. IMO a college has no business adjudicating ANY felony especially ones that happen off campus. The frats at UVA are off campus.

This is beginning to feel like another case that is tried and convicted over social media. It only harms the girls who have been attacked and diminishes their stories.

Yeah I remember those two Hook pieces well (bring back the Hook!)

Lived almost my entire life in Cville and got two degrees at UVa. Was also in a fraternity and had friends in that one. There certainly needs to be change but that doesn't change how horribly RS handled this.

Bad reporting no doubt.

This is just another example of why colleges should not in any way be allowed to handle rape claims.

In every instance they should tell the victim you must contact the local police, we are not the police.

Instead America has this weird system where students can file a report on campus and then the local PD are never told. It is the worst system ever.
