Roof needs painted Evergreen Pearl

My next project on my 97 limited is to get the roof painted, it is worn/faded almost down to the metal and I am scared to death that rust will set in if I don't act fast.

Should I take it to Maaco?

How much should I expect to pay?

Has anyone done this themselves?

I wouldn't worry about rusting anytime soon. My Evergreen Pearl looks exactly like this. The clear coat they used is piss poor. What the hell kind of clear coat fades in NJ? I can understand it on a domestic, but an import?

There was a guy that had his Evergreen repainting by Maaco and the results were pretty good. Results vary from Maaco to Maaco IMO.

I just had a small independent paint shop do my roof and hood same color on my '96 limited. I paid $500.
They were able to stop paint and clear coat at bottom of windows at a pin stripe. Quart of paint is $300 they said. I removed luggage rack for them. Hope to get a few years out of it. Looks good for now.

Doubt it. When I spoke with the original owner before buying, I noticed that all his other cars appeared to be regularly washed and waxed. The paint on this thing looks good on the sides, which shows that he took care of it, but the hood and roof still look like hell.

I think it affects all the clear-coated dark colors. I see this issue on all the Anthracite, Stellar Blue, and Sunfire Red colors too. Most of the Desert Dunes and Azure Blues do not suffer the same fate.

YUP! take off the rack and spoiler bondo the holes and give it the monstaliner treatment!

I would try Plastidip as a cheap cover before anything else. Not sure what type of look your are going for, but bedliner will be hard to reverse.

You could just buy 10 linear feet of vehicle wrap vinyl for about $100. Thats what I plan to do with mine.

I have the same problem with my paint, i got a quote from a independent paint shop to do the front bumper, the hood, and the top. They said $1200.00 and it will last for 5 to 7 yrs.

I paid a local shop 900.00 for the whole truck. I would think you could find a shop to do it for a couple/few hundred bucks. And with where it is, it just needs to be a decent job.

Yes you are right, Maaco will do it for $299.00 and warrenty it for a year. I was just looking for a longer lasting job.

Beautiful paint job but what are the steps before and after? And what kind of paint do I use? I s'pose I can google it.

I just got back from a body shop who quoted me $1600.

I'd say just shop around and find a really good private shop to paint it and remember you buy cheap you buy twice. I'm In the same boat with my runner. clear coat is fine but the paint under it is failing on hood scoop and in front of sunroof.

sounds like you don't want a hodgepodge fix and I don't blame you.

Okay I'm thinking I'm going to use the Plasti Dip. I don't think I can justify sinking more than $500 into a 300,000 mile vehicle. Choice for me I think is to use black or green that is close to Evergreen Pearl. Maybe I'll buy one can of each see which looks better.
