Roof pillar trim removal.

I did a search under quick links but couldn't find it. I want to remove the trim with the gold "4Runner" emblem in it from my '87. I have the sliding windows out of the truck and am prepping for paint, and thought I would freshen up the trim piece. It feels like clips hold the thing in place, but I don't want to force something.

Not exactly positive what emblem you mean, but the emblems on my truck seem to be held on with foam tape.

Saw behind it with a guitar string, I prefer nothing but Ernie Ball Super Slinky medium weight A string ( cos they sound like shet on my guitar so I dont miss them), or maybe some fishing line or even a big wide flat razor.

If there really are some pins, same thing works, or a thin flexible spatula and go slooooooooooow

I mean the black trim just behind the doors. It has a "4Runner" emblem imbedded in it. The trim has to come off in order to remove the emblem.

Looks like there's nothing holding the emblem on from behind.

Might be able to do the floss and hairdryer trick to get them out.

I heard to get the whole trim off you pretty much have to break the clips and might even break the tabs that hold the clips while doing it.

yep ... there is a procedure . but you cant save the clips .

here is the procedure :

first - push forward on the lower portion of the sail panel , this will release the lowest clip

second - push up , and this will release the upper 2 clips

third - push down to release the 2 middle clips .


I have never been successful at remounting the panel , or removing the clips to reinstall them onto the panel .. We offer a clip kit (set of 10) for $23.00 + parcel post http://www.toyotafiberglass.com

I will try it. I removed the sliding windows and trim. (Unfortunately, the weatherstrip is no longer available!). I figured since I've gone that far, I would attempt to pull the sail panels, and clean up, or replace the emblem. Thanks for the link!
