Roof Rack FAILLLLLL!!!!

:mad2: Help!!!

I took my roof rack off to sand prime and paint it. It came out awesome, however...

In doing so, I lost two of the female ends to the tightening bolts. They are now INSIDE THE CHASSIE!!! Called my buddy who is the service manager at the local Toyota Dealer, he said Toyota would charge $500 for that job because they have to remove the headliner (which involves seat(s) removal) being a friend he said someone could do it there for me for $200.

ANYONE have or seen anyone else that this has happened to?!?

My GOBI will be arriving any day now and need to get this resolved in order to mount it.

Looks like it will involve rear seat removal as well as most panels. I can see why a dealer would charge that much as it looks pretty involved as far as times goes.

I had removed my factory roof rack twice before installing my Gobi and have had no issues. It sounds like just one of those freak things that can happen..

I've had it happen to me a few times, twice on 4th gens on once on another vehicle. Sometimes those nut plates are held in place good and other times, well, not so much. It's time consuming but it's a pretty straightforward job removing the interior panels, fishing out the nut plate and re-installing everything. If you're lucky, the nut plates didn't fall too far down.

I honestly don't think it's common. More like operator error this time bad choice of tools and maybe a little carelessness, just be really careful when you remove your roof rack and make sure you try to use a drill. I used a ratchet and maybe wasn't gentle enough or something. Seeing this pictures... I'm thinking I'm gonna drop the $200, which really hurts.

Pay the $200, you can do it but it'll take you all day at least.

Dropped my headliner and removed it completely from the car to deaden the roof without any problems. There are a lot of things that hold up the head liner if you need to remove the whole thing, but honestly I don't think you would need to drop the whole head liner. Maybe just need to do the side where it dropped. You should be able to flex the head liner down enough for you to reach in and find it. I did it with the two front seats still in the car, but I'm sure I could've also done it with the 2nd row there, too. Hardest part was removing the "oh shit" handles

I don't know about other models, but I have SRS airbags all around and don't wanna break my neck by some crazy chance by even breathing on any of those the wrong way lol.
