Roof Rack & Tent Combo - Help Needed!!!

Although I'm not super privy to drilling, I would consider it. Do you know if I went with Prinsu and got a full length rack and skipped the first few cross bars up front to leave it open for my sunroof...would it still hold a RTT and 2 people? Just don't want to overload it and cause it to fail.

It'll definitely fit. Check out that pic of the Tacoma I put up, the whole tent fit on top of the Tacomas cab. If you mount the tent as far back as possible you'll easily clear the moon roof. Also, this wouldn't change the weight distribution. If you really want to you can take the crossbars out from over the moon roof and add them under the tent for more peace of mind but that's definitely overkill

[MENTION=50186]adio3x[/MENTION] I definitely agree with you on the Gobi's haha! Plus from what I hear, the lead times are dogsh*t and they are way overpriced. With that being said, they also have an 800lbs static weight load...where most others seem to be 600.

I think I've narrowed it down to the full length Prinsu or the Baja Utility flat rack.

Do you have any suggestions for quick release mounts that would work for a Prinsu or Baja?? Since this is my DD, I'm going to be pulling my RTT on and off constantly and want a secure easy way to do so.

Also - those hardshells are pretty freaking sweet!

Not that I know of right now. I think the best thing to do is what I mentioned before. Measure out the distance between two bars, mount the bars, have a friend help you move the tent in place while the other screws in the side hardware. When you're done, just take the tent off & either not have those bars up there or just get another set of T slot bars, they are fairly cheap, you can find them for like $20.

The other problem I had with the gobi is the rise in the front, because of the rise, I couldn't fit my new tent. If it didn't have that 2 inches of rise it would've fit.

But my vote goes for the Prinsu or the FrontRunner, those are pretty cool, they have tons of accessories for them, I just wanted the most light full length rack.

I went the K9 route Full Length rack - no drill- solid as F---, 80 nights this year in our CVT Mt Rainer Standard Summit (200lb) tent. We did a 30 day trip thru Colorado, Utah, Wyoming, Idaho, over 5k miles, a ton off-road. That's a lot weight on the rack, rocking back and forth, quite a ways out from center of gravity. The rack did not budge, handled all of it, nicely. Awesome rack, wouldn't hesitate to buy another.

Have a bajarack utility rack and will be adding a Echo4x4 rooftop tent from S Africa when it arrives end of April along with one of their 270 degree awnings. Have done my research and based on what I want, meaning I buy once and am happy with it, these will last for years and years with how they are constructed. Am looking forward to some exploring this spring/summer/fall with them.

Can you get up and walk on your Prinsu? And do you know if either the Gobi or Baja ladders are compatible with Prinsu racks?

I have walked on my prinsu and i am 250 lbs. And yes the baja ladder 1000% works

I went with a full length Prinsu rack and a Tepui tent. All of the crossbars come off the rack easily so I ordered 2 extra and bolted them to the tent. I just put the tent on the rack and bolt the crossbars in and am good to go. It is nice because the bars are bolted to the rack from the side so you don't have to try and get between the roof and the rack to mount the tent.

I have a Gobi Stealth and Smittybilt RTT. Mounted to Gobi cross bars were a HUGE PITA. I bought some higher cross bars so I can easily mount it.

Do you have a link to the higher cross bars you bought?

Do you have a link to the higher cross bars you bought?

I bought some used Yakima Rail Grab bars, which are discontinued. Basically just find some crossbars at your desired length (over hang or not) and make sure they have adapters to mount to round bars.

Maybe it's just the picture, but the back crossbar looks like it's round. Is this a standard prinsu feature, the 1x1 square crossbar, something custom or a figment of my imagination?

Most racks I've seen look like they just have a narrow back crossbar to accommodate the shark fin.

Just purchased the [MENTION=110183]SouthernSS[/MENTION] rack and I'm super excited!! Backorder is a little bit of a bummer but I love the design and think it'll be worth the wait. With a 5-6 week lead time, I should be able to install it before the fishing opener.

I went with the black anodized crossbars (+ 2 extra bars for my RTT) and I was told they are coming out with some new wind fairing options to accommodate front facing light bars soon. I do wish they had black hardware available. Anyone have suggestions for this? Trying to rid my Runner of all stainless and chrome.
