Roof racks front runner vs the rest

Yes, a lot of people have the Gobi. As far as "best" that's pure opinion.

If you don't mind the weight, lack of modularity, and long wait times, they are a decent rack.

I looked at rack accessories, rack components and all through the Front Runner site but cannot find the wind deflectors. Would you mind pointing me in the right direction? I feel like its going to be right in my face but no dice.

The deflectors come with the rack. I've had mine for just over a year. It is so versatile and FR has a great array of accessories.

Installed my Baja Rack system last month and love it...getting the ladder shipped at the end of the month...I made two crossbars out of 1 1/2 inch steel tubing and stainless t-fittings from West Marine to hold them on. Had everything powder coated to match the racks and installed two rack pads to put my surfboards and paddleboard on !!

how much height does the front runner slimline add? Looking at the 3/4 or even the warrior rack platform, seems to have a lot of accessories as well and it's made in the USA.

Yes, a lot of people have the Gobi. As far as "best" that's pure opinion.

I had a gobi on my 4th gen and it was really nice. loved it. I will be getting a front runner though for my new GX. couple reasons. the main one gobi does not make one yet. plus the cost and accessories are better on FR
the negatives about gobi is it got scratched to hell loading/unloading a RTT. the powder coating seemed fragile. I don't think you'll have that issue with the FR. the gobi rack is also very very heavy. at least double the weight of FR.

I love my full length Front Runner. Make sure you have access to a rivnut tool for the front mount. Tons of accessories, light weight aluminum and no wait time.

I love my FR rack... Not to mention that their customer service is top notch.

The only negative feedback is that their slats are too long to (safely) lock in a cargo box like Thuley or Yakama.

People doe it but the clamps arent fully locked.

I feel the same way. Love my FR rack, its beefy and easy to accessorize. My only gripe is the slats are just a bit too wide for my yakima skybox. It fits but won't 100% clamp around those slats. Good news is i'm sure FR will make some simple accessory for this if they don't have one already.

Have seemingly narrowed-down my rack search to a 3/4 FrontRunner Slimline, for a few reasons. Don't like full length, don't want steel, don't want funky attachment issues, etc. FrontRunners look like sweet, simple, well-designed units compared to others.

Does anyone have experience with 2-man RTTs on this rack and can share any tips? Really like the ARB Simpson III and would love to have it open over the back of the vehicle as opposed to off one side if possible.

So now who's going to be the superhero to setup a group buy with FrontRunner?

I was on their site and they dont seem to have a fairing for the front, just curious about wind noise.

I was looking at the Rhino rack w/ the backbone and they have a fairing attachment.

I'm willing to bet wind noise is negligible with a 3/4 rack at the speeds I drive personally, even less with a RTT on it? Hopefully someone with first-hand experience can comment about their tent fitment on this rack.

Cant really see the gorilla tape but its underneath the front mounting point. Its cut to the length of the mount and the gorilla tape was the exact width of it as well. The mount sits ontop of the weather stripping. But for point of reference here are a couple of photos.

Its been a year- how is the tape holding up? Any issues or rattling. If the rack is used for bulky objects, but not a lot of weight, what is the likelihood of failure without the front mounts?

Tape is holding up just fine. No rattling. And still is as sturdy as it was when I first installed everything. I carrier my roof top tent on top, maxtrax, light bar, Axe, Rotopax, all at the same time. No problems at all.

Anybody have any recommendations on paint for touch-ups? I was able to get a used Slimline II for a great deal but just needs touch-up in a few areas. I saw Rustoleum would work well but wanted to see if anybody was using anything else.

Thanks for the info about wind noise. Was something I've been wondering about for a while.

We tested the roof rack and it came back only 4 decibels over the the factory rack.

I’m considering getting the front runner slimline I for my gen 5 4 runner but wanted to know everyone’s thoughts on it and hear about other racks that are comparable. I will be using it for my cvt roof top tent and my surfboards.
