Hey Guys, new to the forum and to 4runners. I purchased my first yesterday.
2006 v6 SR5 4x4 w/53k.
The front pads and rotors were replaced within the last 2k miles and the front diff actuator was massaged to engage 4wd. After driving home twenty miles I found that when I stomped on the breaks the driver side front would thump. It increases with speed and sounds very much like it's rotational, thump thump thump. Today it occurs even when you're not stomping on the breaks. The break light does not come on and it doesn't feel like abs.
It only occurs when applying the brakes, occurs in 4wd and 2wd, the truck does not shake or shimmy, and it does not occur when taking sharp turns.
I thought it might be the standard rear drive shaft thump that plagues 4th gens but the sound is distinctly coming from the front driver side wheel area.
Any ideas would be appreciated. I'll probably get a chance to pull the front wheel and take a close look this weekend.
