2007 Front CV axle Replacement labor cost?

Need to replace both front axles. one side's outer boot is completely torn and the end is bumping around making noise as i drive. the other side's outer boot is also torn, maybe 50%. I believe the final straw for both was engaging 4wd for an extended period of time during a recent snow.

i had anticipated this repair, and had previously purchased a pair of Toyota Remaned axles (PN 43430-60061-84) and two seals (PN 90311-47031 and 90311-47027).

I had thought i might tackle the job myself, but occurring during winter, i decided to price shop it. Dealer comes in just under $600 labor. Independents are about $400-$440. Time estimates are around 3 hours.

Are there any other parts I should have them replace before i make the appointment? And is it alright to drive around in 2wd until the job is done?

There is no way to tell what other damage will occur if you continue to drive with your axle joints exposed. Those parts are hardened steel which rusts pretty quickly, but you will probably throw those old ones away, so....

It's not that difficult. Just need the right tools.

You should be good with the parts you list unless a bad wheel bearing is discovered, they are about $300/ea.

yes, i have replacements. will turn the old ones in for core charge.

IF they take them for a core. they sound un-rebuildable.

ended up having the dealer do the job. they added in an alignment. total labor
$529 incl. $150 core refund. my local independent decided not to do it due to the vehicles age.

Sounds fair, including the alignment and glad you got your core charges back.
Hopefully it drives better and I’m sure sounds better too.

If you have OEM CV axles and the boots rip or leak, buy a boot replacement kit. You can't do better than OEM axles. Especially if you have a lift. Not that difficult to do if you are DIYer. The boot replacement kits are as good as the boots on any axle you can buy aftermarket. If you buy the Toyota replacement boot kit, you may never have to do it again.

the axles on the vehicle had previously been replaced with aftermarket. and, it's winter here, so no outdoor projects. and, i have a state inspection this month. at 255k, i expect the remanufactured axles will be the last i replace.

yes, as usual, it is nice to get a repair done, and driving normal again.

Thats a good price especially from a dealer for this job, I did it last year on mine and had to buy some special tools to get the CV's out, while I was in there I drained and refilled the front diff too and the drain plug on that was a PITA to get out. I also had to replace the seal on the diff and the seal on the knuckle, the diff seal was tricky to get to seat properly.
