I have 2 fuelpax. I will say that they do seem to flex and bulge much more than my buddy’s rotopax. I keep mine mounted on the roof (when needed), and the sun will make them swell much more than the rotopax. Rotopax are definitely more sturdy, but I don’t abuse the containers that carry my fuel (aka combustible liquid) for good reasons. I love my fuelpax - especially since they are 3.5 gallons each.

I use a Rotopax. It discolors if left exposed to UV. Mine's mounted to the roof with their mounting plating and can be a pain in the ass to remove after a day on some elevated trails. Swells and bulges fairly quick. I've been pulling over every 30 minutes to vent it.

steel jerry cans for me. well, i used to use them on my jeep but I'd probably still go that route in the future.

I used to run mine on the roofrack but switched it to the ladder. to avoid the direct hit from the sun (depending on time of day i guess, but still reduced overall). No regrets here on my 3.5gal

I got my during the introductory sale when it was first introduced. Got my 3.5gal for $39. So far very pleased. No complaints really. It's like any other blow molded gas can. Walls feel very thick and durable. I did get the upgraded self venting spout so that works a lot better. If you don't need to stack cans then I'd fully recommend the FuelPax. If you need to save space and stack gas or water cans then I'd get the Rotopax fuel cans otherwise the Fuelpax should do fine.

Liquid doesn't expand much with increasing temps.
Try setting it diagonally when you fill it to minimize the airspace, and you'll get more fuel in there as well. I get virtually zero swelling with my Rotopax, regardless of temps (never had to vent even after +7500' elevation gain).

I went with Rotopax. There was an excellent group buy awhile back.
Warranty is the best. One of mine was leaking from the seam, I sent an email and they sent a replacement right out with basically no questions asked. I just had to prove I had disabled the leaker by drilling a hole in it.
I get very little expansion, and have never vented them even while in the sun for a few 100 miles. Besides that it's pretty tough to vent them while they are mounted on their side.
They do fade, but so will most products being blasted by the UV rays. And really who cares if they fade? As long as they don't leak, I could care less.
Never tried the other products, except old school steel jerry cans.
4 gal Rotopax vs 5 gal jerry cans - So less capacity is a bummer, but on the other hand they are a lot lighter and easier to handle.

Rotopax are stackable, they lay flat on my Gobi, with less wind resistance.
Rotopax price is ridiculous, but then again so is a Jerry can, so that's a wash. Fuelpax slightly better.

I really don’t care about the fading. It’s florida, everything fades. As long as the cans vent properly and don’t leak then the price is worth it. Thanks for all the info fellas.

You'll also have less of a problem with venting since you live in Florida. The cans swell with elevation change and there's not too much of that in Florida.

...also to be clear, the swelling is caused by gases expanding. An empty or mostly empty pax or can will swell more than a mostly full one. Also, the swelling in Florida can be just as bad as the swelling in the mountains of Colorado and Utah. Trust me on this one. We had a can burst in the back of our boat going down the highway on the Gulf Coast a few years back. It was less than half full, and the sun baked it for 3 hours - not a rotopax, but this is true of any container carrying vapor or vaporizing liquids...

Does anyone have any recommendations on the mounting hardware. $50 a pop is insane, they mounts will end up costing more than the containers themselves.
