Rotors and brake pads recommendations?

How did you get that pricing? And do you have slotted for the rear as well or just the front?

Just the front. The rears were replaced less than 10k miles ago before I bought it. I lucked up on a eBay purchase. It was an Amazon return (still with the Amazon sticker). One rotor has very slight discoloration that will come off the first time I hit the brakes. I actually came across a rear set at a local bargain store (damaged retail boxes) for $89 last week. As much as I wanted to buy them, I couldn't make myself spend that on something I don't need for a long time.

Oh ok.....I was searching for some rotors because I'm having significant vibration issues when braking at higher speeds. My shop seems to think it's the rotors. But I also have a some vibration while just driving normal above 65. If I bring it back down to 60 it's smooth again. They are going to take a look tomorrow since my lift is going on. Pads are only a year old but rotors are original with 159K miles.

I couldn't be happier with Akebono pads and Brembo rotors. Found my rotors on eBay and the pads through rock auto. Such a huge upgrade.

I'd definitely check out possibility of the caliper pistons seizing. If the rotors are warped, you have to change them. The previous poster is right, there's some really cost effective Brembo rotors on eBay. Had I not gotten that Power Stop set so cheap, that's the direction I probably would have gone. However if it IS your calipers, you have to get those too (or rebuild if the piston isn't too jacked).

Centric Premium Rotors and Hawk 5.0 pads

I am need of new rotors and pads on the front of my 04 4runner V8. It is asking me what size my rotors are though and I have no clue. I have always had the OEM, is there anyway to tell without measuring?

I think its by the trim level of the truck... SR5, Sport, Limited.

I think the sport could have come with either 319mm or 338mm... I think you need to look at the rim size.

My SR5 has a 16" rim so it has to be 319mm,

Thinking it's just the Sport model. Look on the calipers. If it has '13WH' on it, it's 338mm. Anything else is the 319mm.

Sorry to resurrect this. I don't necessarily expect replies, although they would, of course, be greatly appreciated!

I just ordered stuff for the 5th gen brake upgrade. Front Centric rotors, 4 new calipers, 6 SS lines are all going on my 2004 Limited. However, I haven't bought pads yet. You guy seem to be praising the Hawk 5.0 pads... any specifics on Akebono pads? Do I get ceramic? Semi metallic? OEM? What do you think?

I read somewhere on here that Akebono semimetallics are basically the OEM pads. I love mine. My wife is always stealing my truck and she loves the brake feel of the runner.

I've had Akebono Performance (ASP) pads on the front for about 60 miles so far, and they seem good. I'm also using Centric premium rotors.

With Centric Fleet Performance pads I got unevenness on the rotors after about 24,000 miles, and they made a lot of dust. The rears (I think) would often squeak slightly under light breaking.

That's what I'm trying to decide between. I'm not sure about OEM bc I've read they're more expensive, and that Akebono provides OEM pads. Why spend more for what is essentially the same product?

Changed all fours with Centric rotors, premium pads and calipers from rockauto. Been happy with it especially during offroading excursions. Keep in mind of stuck calipers. Check out uneven brake pad wear when changing brake system. I had a stuck caliper on the left side and I went ahead and changed both front calipers. No pulsating or pulling when braking.

Ordered all my parts thru Advance online in March of this year to do the upgrade to 5th gen rotors on the front and both front and rear calipers. 1) One set is for the front, one is for the rear.

2) The SPORTS use the larger rotors. You can look at the stamping on your caliper to confirm (WH).

3) It's a rear rotor?

4&5) Quality set of pads will come with all the hardware. Double check.

6) Are your calipers seized or boots destroyed? If so, yes. If not, up to you.

Personally I run Centric blanks and Stop Tech (made by Centric) pads. Light towing with utility trailer, 1 or 2 trail runs, Daily Driver. Works fine for my needs, but super dusty.

5th Gen upgrade parts # are listed in a few of the other threads if you search for them. Definitely worth it if you are already swapping seized calipers.

I had a couple of quick questions:

RE: forum member R32 (two or so posts above me), he's showing an Akebono part number with ACT in the product number (daily driver quality). Would anyone recommend the ASP (HD, towing) or is there a downside to the ASP line if one is not towing (but does some mountain passes with lots of heavy braking)?

The vehicle (2005 4R LTD, 4.7L, 2WD, 17" OEM wheels) is not accessible to me right now. Is there any easy way to determine rotor size ahead of time (does that level of trim and options only come with one rotor size, for instance)? If I need someone to try and find a stamping on a rotor, where would the person be looking on the rotor (and can you see it with the wheel on the car)?

Sure is I bought a power stop kit from Rock auto drilled and slotted rotors for a 2011 4runner , you do need to replace the calipers as well. The calipers have updated pistons so they dont freeze up like the old ones do. for the rear use the 2011 calipers with the stock year rotors. Everything bolts right up the front rotors are larger so you will have to bend the dust shields just a little so they dont rub the rotor. I did this on my wifes 03 stops great now. If need be im sure I can dig up the part numbers I used. There is also a post on how to do this on here somewhere. Dont be afraid if you can do a brake job it no harder than that.
