I have a 1990 4r, 5 speed with about 180,000 mi. When standing at idle and slowly depressing the accelerator through the RPM range, it jumps from about 16-1700 rpm, straight to 21-2200 rpm no matter how much the throttle is feathered. This happens with the pedal or by manipulating the linkage under the hood. It causes a noticable lurch when driving in that rpm range when not accelerationg or decelerating but trying to cruise smoothely along. Is this a normal or common occurence?
Also, thinking about trading up tp a '95 with less mileage and an automatic. Is this a good year? I've also heard that the automatics get less mileage because of rearend gearing or something. What say you brothers?

I have a '95 too so, yes IMHO it's a good year.
