RPM s shoot up when turning heat on. Normal?

Is this normal? I know its normal with A/C using a condenser and all but would turning the heat on really require the engine to bring up the rpms to compensate for lost power? Seems odd to me. It shoots from about 800 to 1100k and slowly drops down to about 900k. Even with the engine warmed up and running.

if your running your defrost it is normal as your ac will kick on when using the heater on the front window defrost to keep the window from fogging.
