My T4R:
2019 4Runner Off Road - Stock suspension and ride height. 265/70 R17 Falken Wildpeak At3W tires (factory size).
Order:
I placed my order for RSG angled, powder coated sliders with no top plate on May 6, 2019. I promptly received an order confirmation email with theestimated ship date of between 5 and 6 weeks.
Five weeks and two days later I received a UPS Ground shipping notice with tracking information. 6 days later the sliders were delivered. Actually they were thrown out the back of the UPS truck onto my driveway by the delivery driver. I was sitting at the back of the house and heard loud clanging and thuds at the front of the house. I saw the UPS truck pulling out of my driveway as I walked outside. The slider boxes were tossed in the middle of my driveway about six feet from the sidewalk (4Runner was in the garage with door closed). Thankfully RSG packed the sliders very well in thick boxes and the powder coat was in perfect shape.
Installation:
Installation Tools: Floor Jack, scrap piece 2"x6" pine board, Towel(pad slider on jack), pneumatic ratchet wrench, 12MM and 13MM sockets, torque wrench, plastic pry tool (remove plastic frame plugs).
Installation went smoothly following one of the online videos. Took longer than many of you will take because I'm anal as hell, heat index was over 100ºF with humidity of 80% and I'm getting old and tired of crawling around under cars. All of the holes on the sliders lined up perfectly with the threaded holes on the frame.
The only installation problem was one of the threaded frame holes on the driver side lined up behind one of the KDSS lines. I was able to lift the line up enough with the floor jack in order to have the bolt head clear while tightening. The line doesn't come close to the bolt head after installation so no worries about it rubbing through. This issue was no fault of RSG.
There's around 1/2" vertical adjustability when installing the sliders. I installed mine as high as possible. Measurements below are with the sliders as tight up to the body as possible.
Sliders as steps:
The sliders definitely work as a step. People that say the RSG Sliders are at the same height as the entry rendering them useless as a step didn't measure or they're 6'4" + and don't need a step. Installing the sliders 1/2" lower will make them even easier to use, but reduce clearance. My wife said she wouldn't want to use the sliders as a step while wearing heels. She doesn't wear heels much, so no problem there.
Weight:
I weighed the factory running boards on a shipping scale.
Factory running boards (my T4R is an Off Road, but the running boards had SR5 stickers on back): 34.6 pounds including hardware.
RSG Sliders: Advertised at 100 pounds (net weight gain 65.4 pounds)
