I'm curious if anybody has put a 4 person roof top tent on their 4runner?

I've been looking at something like these...

I contacted them and they said they didn't have a picture of one. They have a picture of a 5th gen on their site, but not with their larger tents.

I'd have to check with Tepui, but I believe they had a Kukenam XL on top of their adventure trailer rental one time I was there. The tent is absolutely huge inside, it was amazing. If you need to sleep 3-4 people regularly it'd be a good way to go. Weighs a good bit more than my Kukenam Sky though. If you elaborate more on your needs I might be able to come up with with more tailored recommendations.

I'm looking to sleep 2 adults and 3 little kids (8, 5, 3). It'll be tight, but once their older, and bigger, they can get their own tent.

From some rough measurements it looks like the Gran Sabana (and similarly sized RTT) will be almost exactly the same as the whole roof on the 4runner.

Have you given any thought to a RTT along with an enclosed "annex" room below? I would think this would be ideal - saves on a little weight and size of the stowed RTT while giving more room.

Basically, you could sleep perhaps the kids upstairs and the parents downstairs or vice versa. I'm thinking one of those configurations where the ladder is inside the annex.

I'd have to measure but yea, it'll take up a good amount of space. I guess it comes down to if you're trying to mount other stuff up on the roof rack or just the tent. One thing, it might be kind of dangerous having the little ones going up and down the tent ladder, especially for nighttime bathroom trips. With that many people a trailer actually makes a lot of sense. More room for gear too, but it would be another cost to factor in. Just some food for thought.

You end up with about 12" of space on the front of the rack if you get the same one as me (eezi awn k9 2.2m) and mout it as far back as you can. I'm loving the tent though and highly recommend it, and can confirm 4 adults fit, albeit a bit tight.
