Rubber Trim Piece (Roof)

So I'm driving around on lunch today and notice the wind squeeling above my head around the roof rack. I figured that the wind was blowing in a funny direction to get that sound out of the roof rack. When I parked, I noticed that the rubber strip (driver's side) that goes from back of the roof rack to the front is hanging off the side of my car, only connected to the roof of the car by a few inches of trim.

I just tucked the rubber trim back in, and went to work. Anyone else have this problem?

I've got an 06 Limited with 2,900 miles on it.

I have loose trim too. It hasn't popped out yet though (knock on wood), but it does move a bit inside the channel. This is for both sides from the windshield to the front roof rack caps. Thanks for reminding me; some users have used double-sided 3M tape to securely fasten the trim down. I will do this tonight when I get home.

Yeah! Same problem here with my 05 Runner. First, it started only couple inches at the top conner near the windshield on the driver side, then it popped out a foot or so. I just simply applied some marine clear glue to hold it down before I traded it in. Don't have any problem with the 06, yet.

Rubber roof trim

The other day I took my 2006 4runner to the automatic car wash, after pulling around to vaccuum and detail, I noticed the rubber roof trim hanging off the side. Dried off and put back in groove, unfortunately the passenger side has already blown off! This sucks! How was it held on originally and what is it's purpose?

I'm gonna check out a nearby junk yard and hope they have one off a wrecked 4runner of same year.

Are you sure it's not in the car wash? I lost one of mine at a carwash and went back and got it a few days later. Fortunately they hadn't thrown it away yet.

It seems to be held on by friction, mine didn't have any glue under it. It mounts under the foot of the rack a little, but I don't know if the foot holds it down since it doesn't hold it down tightly.

I almost lost one of mine in an auto car wash too! when I left the dryer the passenger side strip was hanging off. Does anyone know the purpose of these rubber strips?

If you guys are talking about what I'm thinking about, its to try to keep water from running into the body grooves.

I guess it's not just a T4R problem, either. My 08 Yaris Sedan's top trim strip (identical to what is on my 03 4r) came off to the side once when I left a carwash. I think the channel it covers might be where the sides of the vehicle are connected to the top, because it looked like there was some sort of metal-that-has-been-crimped seam under there.

i realized i recently lost my drivers side trim piece.
should i be concerned with any water leakage to the inside or anything? is it vital to replace immediately?

Runner trim under roof rails

Any solutions? I came off the highway today and mine was hanging off the side of my truck.
