It can and has been done. It is an easy way to lift the front without spending big bucks.
I am running Monroe shocks meant for a Tundra with my 99 Tall Coils. The ride is firmer than stock, but feels more controlled on the highway. I like the ride much better than when I had the TRD springs up front. Combined with longer front sway bar links (rears from a 2ng gen on the front) body roll is greatly reduced. The stock links leave the sway bar at an angle, the flatter the sway bar is, the better it controls body roll.
It will definitely improve the ride. Just leave the shocks at the lowest setting and you will have stock height. Your main choice is whether to get shocks for a Tundra or Tacoma? The Tundras have 5 height settings, while the Tacomas have 3, or maybe I have that backwards. Hopefully someone chimes in to correct me. The Tundra's are a bit firmer than the Tacomas, as they are obviously meant for a heavier vehicle. I am quite happy with the firmness of the front end since going to the Tundra shocks.
seanxgodfrey: I agree with shadow247. This is because the Bilstein 5100's are adjustable shocks and can also be joined with an adjustable coil for coilovers. They have 3 notches and the first is comprable to no lift(Your factory shocks), next notch is roughly a 1" lift and 3rd notch is roughly a 2.5" lift.
Anyime you change out a shock that is WAY overdue, your going to feel a tremendous difference. Just the stiffness you will notice on turns. Also, the Bilstein gas pressure shock also absorbs and dissipates heat quikcer so your shocks respond longer to extended periods of bumps. The nice this about Bilsteins is their adjustability.
Good luck. Oh, and Im running factory coils on Bilstein 5100's up front.
my shocks aren't exactly shot, but i figured since im going to piece together my lift, why not get something i can put on the rig first ya know?
Even though they might not necessarily be shot, you will definitely notice the difference after you install the Bilsteins. Also, I am not quite sure what you have now so i really cant set a comparison. Nor do I know how many of those roughly 230K miles are on your current shocks. But I do promise you will like the quality of the Bilsteins. Remember what shadow247 said that Tundras are firmer and Tacomas are a little less firmer, for obvious reasons. I have the Tacomas and I love my entire setup. I would do 100% of what ive done, all over again.
for sure , i'll keep that in mind, as long as the tacomas dont look to small once i get my lc wraps in the back after all is said and done after 6 months of building hahaah
Im not quite sure what you mean by small. Do you mean physical size?

I currently have FJ Superflex coils and they add 2" alone. Also, they are 8 wraps. My Bilsteins look just fine. Total, I have a 7" lift on my 4runner. So what are you saying?!?! I kid, I kid![]()
i'm just not a fan of rake or atleast large rake if were being honest here :croc: but i'd want these right ? 1995-200 Toyota Tacoma - Bilstein 5100 Series Leveling Strut / Shock (Adjustable 0" to 2.5" FRONT Lift) - F4-BE5-D558-T0 and what a reservoir shocks ?!
scratch that, im going to do the tundras
Thats absolutely fine. We cant help you get what you want unless your honest. Dont let me tell you what you want on your truck. I was just shooting you info. Reservoirs are almost an extra shock that is linked to your primary shocks, they provide more gas and compression for longer trailing.

I prefer a little bit of rake. But if you want it leveled, then defintely do it. I can always level my truck by buying the adjustable coils on the front end. Sort of tackling my maintenance right now(suspension components, timing belt, serp belt, pulleys, thermostat, water pump, ball joints, tie rods, etc.)
No I love what you're telling me, i just looked at richkashay's trd tundra/lc lift and thats what im going to shoot for so i figure why not get the tundras, I'm just worried its going to be to stiff for me, I understand I'm driving a 4runner and not a caddy but a smooth ride would be nice! Would the reservoir be good for the back of the runner or should i just stick with the 5100's all around?!
Again, it is all about what you will primarily use your vehicle for. I do know rickashay wheels his runner. Its all preference.
He also still needs to make me projector headlights!![]()
