Running Boards on 06 Ltd.

My previous vehicle, an SUV-wannabe (Mazda Tribute 4X4) was fair on muddy surfaces, but the gap between the bottom edge of the door and the door sills would get packed with mud. Part of the cause was no front mud flaps on the Tribute, so I already know the 4Runner will stay much cleaner.

I assume the stock running boards on the '06 Limited will deflect the mud and minimize the buildup at the bottom edge of the doors. My question is:

With the running boards removed, does mud get into the gap between the doors and door sills?

Alright, guess you got me there. I don't get my truck as muddy as yours, but I do like running around in the Big South Fork and on Windrock Mtn. Maybe some day my truck can be a dirt clod compared to your pig pen. And I bet we'll both have a good time off-road!

i don't know how far oak ridge is from here but on memorial weekend there is an event called southern shine crawl in harlan kentucky, they say a stock ranger could do the trails with all the bypasses, you should try to attend see some of the other runners in our group, mines pretty mild compared to some

Just becareful of what you drive over, those step rails can do more damage on than off.

I used to have the chrome factory steps on my Tacoma, and I would have pushed them into the doors bigtime. Oh and I am sitting on the frame with 2.5 inches of lift if your wondering.

I haven't had any problems with mudd since I removed mine (about 2 days after I bought the truck). I think the 4Runner looks a LOT better without them as well.
