Running boards or not--oppinions

Wanted to take a pole for those who are for and against limited running boards. I personally think the running boards give the limited a classy look. I'm considering lifting it 3 inches with the 265/75/16. I have to agree that without them it looks more lifted and most I see running around with any type of lift don't have then. I rarely go off road on anything more than dirt roads. What are your oppinions? Any lifted running board lovers here?

I'm also considering pulling them off and ordering some black step bars? Thoughts??

I think it really depends on the look. if it's lifted 3" it would still look good. I like more of the truck look so no runners for me.

Wait, but a 4Runner without running boards is just a 4, isn't it? Hmm...

If you don't take it off road a lot, leave them on there.

The reason most people take them off is beacause they don't really work out for wheeling. They'll get all busted up and stuff, then it just looks like poop.

You can always get a set of sliders built to look like Running boards if you wanted to.....

If you're not wheeling it, go with the look you like best.

Of course, if you're in Utah and you're not wheeling it you're WRONG, but that's another thread.

Thanks guys. I've checked out some old thread comparisons and I think once I lift it 2.5-3 inches it will be fine with them on. Def looks to sit taller stock with them off

kidding aside... I originally removed mine for two reasons: I was being cheap and wanted the appearance of a lift. It seems to work, because anyone that is interested in mine asks me what kind of lift I have (And then they start telling me about their Blazer and how they want to lift it... oh sorry. OT. lol)

The other reason is because every time I stepped out, the stupid things kept hitting my shins because they're useless.

I have a 2000 Limited and I really like how they look. If you don't go offroad then I would just keep them on. Heck after you lift it you can still go offroad just be careful not to damage them. You can always take them off if you plan a trip as well. They aren't hard to remove.

Good idea. I like the look (and it is easier for my wife to get in) but took mine off because I off-road. I don't do rock-crawling, mainly just trails and dirt road, but I would have torn them up by now. They are pretty easy to put on and take off.

I like the running boards. Mine has a 3" suspension lift and a 2" body lift.

It makes getting in and out of the truck easier for everybody.

I do take mine off road but I don't beat the shite out of my truck.

Before and after on 2001 with stock suspension.

Same 4Runner. After picture is with ~3" lift.

& Same with Stubbs HDSKO sliders.

I think they look alot more rugged without the steps. That and for the short time i had mine they just got in the way and made the back of my pants muddy(the woman didnt like that). The bad part about taking them off is they are your front mud flaps too. Finding replacements has proven to be difficult.

I have never owned a 224000 mile vehicle with almost perfect paint on lower front door,that being the reason I like my running boards,keeps more crap off vehicle than none or bars,less road oil,rock chips etc,that being said when I lift mine Im really going to be torn on whether to take them off or not,they just look so much better without them IMO.Boards on= trip to grocery store,boards off=stance like a crouching tiger,roar.

If you wheel more than dirt trails, take them off before they get smashed. If not, leave them on. Easy peasy.

you wanted to take a pole? sorry, couldn't resist, it's too funny. First time I took my limited on the hills in CO, slammed down on the running boards twice. Decided at that point sliders would be a better idea. Understand that's not your intention but I think it makes the vehicle look better. I also don't have children and told my wife that what the O-shit handles are for -
