Running boards

I noticed some one w/ an 03 removed their running boards and I liked the way it looked.

I was wondering how was it is to removed them; are there any issues with the electrical running to them since they have lights; and how to protect the holes that are left from rust and the wiring harness (assuming there is one) once the boards are off??

If you plan to remove your running boards...

On each side there are a total of 6 bolts I believe (if not it's 8)... don't rem...

Also since you have the limited, your rb's come with the rb foot light. MAke sure you disconnect that piece.

After you remove the bolts, just spray some "anti rust" stuff (you can find em anywhere) and they rebolt the holes so you can use them next time or just keep em out completely (up to u, so long as you spray the holes so it won't rust).

As for the light harness part, just cover it up w/ something (i dunno - anything? or u can just remove the harness completely so you don't have to worry about it.) - Removing them night be better as then you can go thru some major water holes and not worry about any electrical problems.

I'll take a quick look at the svc manual tonight and see where it connects too. Sorry can't help you more here as my SR5 doesn't have em!

Went thru the svc manual... boy this book sux... I was hoping to find the wiring harness drawings so I can see where the connections are but the book doesn't provide a graphic orientation of it...

anyway, I'd say if you really want to remove the rb's, take em off as they only require a few bolts (front to back) and it should come off.. as for the wiring harness if you can remove the harness itself that might be better as you won't have to worry about shorting when it gets wet, other than that, you can go to the source of the harness up to where the harness plugs into the ecu and just remove that one pin. If you want I can try to scan the page to show you which pin you need to remove..

It's just 1 pin that activates the high/low setting and then a ground so if you remove the high/low pin then you won't have to worry about anything...

if you're lazy just cover the harness plug at the running boards...
it's as easy as that
