Running wires to the rear

I have been looking for an easy way to run a wire from the dash to a pair of lights I installed under the back bumper. ( I had a pair of small PILOT driving lights - 55w - so decided to light up the back). I used a pair of clamp brackets I got a long time ago and two existing bolts.

I found a small plug behind the left rear wheel. I had to reach up under the tail light, about a forearm's length; and felt it. I pulled it out and pushed some wire through. I was able to reach it from the jack compartment. From there, it will be easy to snake the wires over the rear wheel well to the door plates and up to the dash. (There are several posts on running the wires under the door plates).

I will run 2 or 3 wires through wire loom for any future needs (16 ga, different colors). Once the loom is through the sheet metal, I'll put some sealer on my finger and hit it from both sides to make it water-tight again.

Sorry, no pictures. The plug is too far up...it is out of sight!

I haven't checked the right side yet for a plugged hole. If I find one, maybe I'll run a CB antenna wire through it.

I usually poke a hole in center of the rubber plugs and pull the wires through, then a little FIPG (Form-In Place Gasket) around the hole I made to seal it. It works great.

I'll check for the Form In Place Gasket. The hole feels like it is about the right size for 1/4 inch wire loom. I want to protect the wires from as much chaffing as I can. I have to check the size of the center post in the plug...didn't have enough time today to do more than find out where the opening led to.

I have a post in my build that shows how I ran wires to the back of my rig. Basically fished them through the frame rails from my engine compartment to the spare tire =)

I thought about running inside the rails. Its a good alternative and I wouldn't have to dismantle the door sill covers.

I only need one wire for power, but I'm running 3...just in case I find something else that I just have to have! I think I'll run a pull cord too.

Thanks to KOTRIN. I finally ran the wires through the left frame rail. I used a wire snake front to back. It seemed it would be easier to pull the ends out of one of the holes at the rear.

I used a hole in the left front body mount to start.

I don't have any future plans for the rear, but I ran three (colors) primary wires, encased in wire loom, just in case!

The new rear lights (55w H5 Pilot lights I had in the garage for a long time) ground themselves through the mounting bracket and the rear bumper cover bolts I used for the clamps.

All that's left to do is connect to a dash light source, which will wait for some cooler weather.

I should have taken pictures. I can still take some of the holes and bolts to pay the help I got forward if anybody needs them.

[MENTION=80616]Sgt. Rock[/MENTION] - I'd love a picture, especially the front. I'm trying to do the same thing (avoid all the moving parts and heat) but it's not clear where in the front to exit.

Sorry off topic but do the factory wires for the lift gate power and ECU wires also run the same way? I just saw your post by chance but I’m having an issue where my code reader is telling me that the rear lift gate ecu is not communicating with the main body ECU and it’s driving me crazy trying to inspect the wires for a short, i don’t know which way they go and this is the first electrical issue I’ve ever ran into automotive wise so I’m so lost, hope I can get to point where I can start installing accessories back there once I figure out how to get my tailgate functions to work again lol, but right now it doesn’t even open.
