Rust on windows?

Just bought a 96 4runner and I love it!
It's somewhat rough shape - http://www.toyota-4runner.org/new-members/94701-new-3rd-gen-owner-colorado.html

The bars on the roof rack were completely rusted and in rain would drip onto the windows. It left the weird discoloration, looks like oil almost. Kind of rainbow effect thing. I have tried cleaning it with window cleaner and a degreaser. Any suggestions?

Try 000 steel wool. Make sure you get any left over sw fibers off so they don't ad to your rust.

Try a water and vinegar mix and a Scotch brite "no scratch" pad (they are blue ) like is used for smooth top ( glass ) kitchen stoves. Maybe also some of the scrubbing solution or whatever it is called for smooth top stoves.


You can buy this stuff at most Walmarts and grocery stores.

OO! Glass stove top cleaner, that's a good idea!

EDIT: Just happened to have some glass stove top cleaner. Worked amazing, even took the discoloration of some of the body panels. And other stops I hadnt been able to get on the mirrors and windows. Thanks for the idea!

Mothers Chrome polish will take this right off believe it or not. It has a great compound for the rust remains on your window. Use a scotch brite pad with this compund on it followed by a a good wiping down with some glass cleaner on a newspaper folded up.
