Rust Spot!!

I was washing the roof of my truck tonight and i noticed a rust spot. It is a bump of some sort sticking up through the clear coat approx. 1/8" long. It is also causing the paint to fade or oxidize. Im planning on calling the dealer tomorrow and having them look at it. I have a few other common problems (sunroof) that i was trying to wait on, but im not waiting on this, im sure it will just get worse. Let me know what you guys think. I will try a pic, it may take me a few times.

OK, how can it eat through the paint, and rust that much in the 3+ months ive had the truck? I would hope the clearcoat on our 4r have a little better protection than that. Thanks for the reply though!!

Rather than something surfacing, it looks like an impact from a piece of metal.

Hard to tell if it is on top of, or through the clear coat in the pic.

Thats what i was thinking, it feels hard (like metal) when i rub my finger over it. When i take it to the dealer do you think they will just sand/repaint that spot or replace the entire roof panel? Im a little nervous they will try and cut corners, and it wont look right.

Since it is not a material defect, and appears to have come from an external source; you will get stuck with the bill. Replacing the roof is not an option and would cost thousands of dollars. They will remove the scrap metal, sand it down, fill & paint it. Lucky for you it is not located where one can see it without being elevated.

Next time place a ruler or an object that one can easily identify; next to the area of interest. That way one can see the scale of the damage. The cross section sort of looks like an old wedge style concrete nail. I assume the diameter of the distorted area/paint is no bigger than 3/8 to

Yea, I thought of placing a dime or something next to it a couple hours after I took the pic. The entire spot is probably no larger than the size of a hole punch so im pretty sure a nail would be too large. I just cant see how this could have been caused by anything I did. I cant get it to the dealer until next week, I will see what they say then. Thanks
