Rust...

My 4Runner is about 8 months old. But I noticed when washing it, there is a little rust where the screws go in for the license plate (I took the plate off for the first time to just get some dirt out)...

Should I just try reconcentrate more soap or other material on trying to get the rust out? or is it just rust from the screw? I tried whiping at it, but it's hard to tell...

It's surface rust from your zinc-coated screws used to attach the plate.

First thing I did when I got my 4-Runner was replace all the license plate screws with some stainless steel ones. I never understood why dealers still use zinc-coated screws to attach the plates, knowing full-well that they will start rusting within a few months. (Especially in the winter months)

I found the exact same thing on mine, only just one of the screws. The bad part was I had a hard time removing that screw, it took a vice grip on the head to start it. There already looks like some rust starting to bubble up under the skin alongside the hole. I am taking it back to the dealer for their body shop to look at.

Well how about that, my 100th post, and now graduated to 'Senior' member. Thats not an 'age' thing, I hope.:D
