Rusted out quarter panels...need ideas

Hey-lo! As my user name suggests, my T4R is quite rusty. I have new rust free fenders, hood, doors, and tailgate. My rockers and quarters are rusted out, but I don't really want to spend money on buying patch panels for them. I was thinking of just cutting out the rust and making the wheel well opening bigger and maybe gor for a pre-runner look or something. If anyone has any pictures of quarter panel or rocker panel DIY fixes for rust please post ideas or better yet pictures!!:guitar3:

my fix bondo and bedliner..

Lol! You truck looks great in the picture, but I'd rather do a more "proper?" job I don't want the bondo to start cracking off in a year. Any other ideas?! Is there a place to buy replacement quarter panel pieces that you can weld on?

Toyotafiberglass.com. expensive but it takes care of the rust for good....

toyotafiberglass-keepin' the drive alive fiberglass is NOT expencive .. $290.00 ea. compared to the metal $1000.00 ea . + install time is WAAyyyy easier .. do-it yourself .. here's how 1/4 panel install

once you get the panel off , you can clean up the inner skeleton , and your truck will last for a VERY long time ..

also .. let me say .. THIS IS NOT OLD SCHOOL FIBERGLASS .. as in any industry , many advances have been made .. WAYYY better then steel , no question .

Great, thanks guys! I'm really shocked that you have to buy that whole metal panel for $1k!? Fibre glass seems like the way to go. I probably wont be doing it this season, but if I do it next season I will def post pics. Honestly tho, I'm not sure if I even want to spend the $600 on the fibre glass panels. I might just do a cut out and spend the $600 on big tires : ) We'll see...

I got their wheel arches and one of the side panels a couple of days ago........they are rough, no arguing that point. $400 with shipping and it took two weeks because they didn't have any of the arches built. The lines are correct, but I will be spending a decent amount of time with the grinder and welder to get these right. I'll keep you informed of my time and take lots of pictures.

Wolf Steel panel install

Yes there is progress......We moved into the new house and as you might expect, it was pure mayhem!!!

Anyway.....I completed the passenger side, it was the easier of the two sides and I wanted to get a feel for the panel and see how the welder was's going to treat the thin material. Power set all the way down and feed at it's slowest rate still was a little too hot so burn-through was a major concern.

The panels themselves are NOT designed to replace the entire quarter. These things are hand-made and as you would expect, they're a little rough and require some minor fabrication to work. If your panel is really rough, I would suggest either the glass panels or bucking up for new ones from Toyota. Yeah, I know those things will cost you $2000 for both but if you're hell bent on steel, go that route. Otherwise, the glass panels look cool but I don't have experience in fiberglass so it'll come down to your preference.

I attached a couple of pictures......The passenger side patch right after I welded it and also pictures of the driver side being mocked in place.......I'll post more once I get the driver side buttoned up. FYI - I spent 4 hours on the passenger side so far, and I'm guessing another 2 hours to grind, fill and glaze.
